Who to blame?
Avast!!

I have 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate and since 2011-01-22 I had problem playing Blu-Ray movies.
PowerDVD ultra 10 would not play disc in my LG blu-ray player and would not play my ISO on Slysoft Virtual Clone Drive.
Tried different movies. No problems before (6 months).
Message was I was using player for the first time which was wrong and promted me to chose a region even though I allready had and there was 0 (zero) region choises left.
I reinstalled the OS but the problem persisted.
I installed Daemon tools ISO lite but the problem persisted.

I blamed Cyberlink (and Hollywood DRM mafia) and bought Corell WinDVD.

Today I read that this problem have been around from time to time since early 2010.
Most had Avast and 64 OS so I removed Avast and installed Microsoft Security Essential and now everything works.

I forgot to mention you need to reinstall PowerDVD after you have removed Avast.

hi

your powerdvd does not work because avast version 5 (01.22.2011)? it's weird, my walk with avast powerdvd version 5 up from 21/02/11. my powerdvd does not work anymore because I do not know where the fault => avast version 6 and windows 7 64 SP1 are the same week (21/02/11 and 26/02/11) so it's complicated. I will test if you remove avast as it does not work => may be because windows 7 sp1?

Actually ther is a key thing that has been mentioned. Everyone can be quick to blame an Antivirus. But Daemon tools does mess with windows region settings. So... Anything you try to play after it has been installed it may ask for you to specify the region. If Daemontools is running in the background it will override that setting and not allow you to play your disc.

I am having the same issue. now I am being told that it's the first time playing a blu-ray (it is not) and that I have 0 attempts left to change the region code on my player (I had not changed it before).
