Please provide the basic info we need as per the first page of this forum. Your problem is not common, so it's difficult to steer you in any direction. Win 10, i7

ok - sorry - didn't see that.

I can get my head around the first 2 bits, and I understand how to uninstal it. However - I downloaded it on-line, and am unsure as to how I would go about re-installing it to see if it fixes the problem itself. (sorry). I can see that I can download a free trial of the PD9 - would I do that and just input the same CD key I had for the version I downloaded??

There are three very basic things we need to see/know in order to give good assistance.
1 - Information about your system. Generally in the form of a DXDiagnostics file attached to your reply.
2 - A screen shot of the work space showing the types of files in use in the project. attached
3 - The version and build of PD9 that you are using.

If you have problems supplying the information, please just ask. We here want to see you up and running.

shall go and try and do those :.

Annoyingly - I've been up and running for about 6 weeks with PD9, having upgraded from a free trial version that I had on my laptop that I bought in September. So far it's been totally problem free and issue free despite me never having used any video editing software at all before.

Just thinking - I didn't say what I was doing

I have been selecting the section/bit (sorry don't know all the technical tersm - I have my own unique words for it all) that I want to take a snapshot of on the time line (I also tried doing it from key frame as well).

Then clicked on the snapshot button

Naming the clip

Saving.

It was then saving it and putting it into my media library - which I was then able to use on the timeline.

However, this afternoon after doing the "save" button it was timing out/freezing and I got the programme not responding message and it closing.

When I checked in the folder I had been saving them into the file names were there, but with no thumbnail/image and the file size were 0 bytes.

When I tried to view any of those images (or preview) from windows explorer I got a message to tell me it was an invalid image, or just a blank screen (depending on which programme I used).

If I try and import one of the "blank" snapshot into my media library I get a message saying

"An error occurred while opening this media file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content, or for another reason. Please try contacting your video provider for a different video format".

The problem you have was a flaw in the original release but only when one was trying to take a snapshot of a file in the library but not on the timeline. Can you save any other formats ? Win 10, i7

I tried saving into all 4 options - bmp, jpg, gif and png and have the same result each time now.

HDedit,

That is not entirely true. I am running on the original release (2316) and can take and save snapshots in the media library. No hang-ups or freezes.

My system specs below.

ok - the plot thickens (for me anyhow).

I have had another play around with it this morning. It appears that it's only in a section of the video where I have 3 or more video tracks in use at once that it hangs and crashes.

Other points where I have the same file types, but fewer on top of each other it's still saving them, adding to the media library and working normally.

I can work around the issue to create my desired effect - it's just rather frustrating - although I am now wondering whether my solution is to find a very basic animation programme I can create powerpoint (yes I do mean PP) type animations with - or another way to do it in PD?

What I'm trying to do is to get 5 little stickmen (don't ask lol) to move across the screen from different directions, at the same time as other to meet around the same point.

Then I want to use that image (of stickmen in place) to add extra stuff,

Hi I've been trying to work out why PD9 seems to stop responding under certain scenarios, the most consistent way to make PD9 stop responding is to edit a video, when splitting the video multiple times when viewing the video the sound comes out ok but the scenes are way behind the sound and often you get the old "Program not responding" dialogue box.
Well after spending the best part of a couple of weeks trying different hardware and Windows 7 32 and 64 bit, I stumbled on the problem which is the "Power Director 9 Build 2504 patch".
I started by installing Windows 7 64 bit, applying all the Windows patches etc. because I bought the upgrade from PD 8 to PD 9, installed PD 8 then upgraded to PD 9, then applied Build 2504 patch, then editing video and after splitting the video a couple of times I would get this problem where Windows stopped responded, I tried it on 3 different machines with Win 7 32 and 64 bit and always had the same results, even added 8GB memory and installed a Asus t450 graphics card all with the same results.
I then started from scratch again and tested editing the video at various stages and all worked fine until I applied the patch as soon as the patch was installed I had the same problems, not satified I uninstalled PD 9 without the patch and all was fine again did this a number of times and the problem is definetely the Build 2504.

Hope this helps others that're having similar problems
Jim

hi Jnis - I was on 2304 (I think - or something like that) - but after encountering the issue with the crashing and error I came onto this forum and discovered the patch installed it - but the same issues.

Further playing around with editing the video it appears that half of the 2 minute video I'd created so far is problem prone and keeps crashing.

The point that it's "buggy" from is a point that I previously saved it at, so I'm wondering, in my incredibly no-techy mind, whether something has been corrupted?

I have saved all my titles, Pip's etc and am going to try putting it together in a new project to see if I encounter the same issues.

Snapshot function problem. Likely to be caused by the user, where selecting to process data from and to an external USB connected or sleeping drive.

You need to check the address location of where you're attempting to process the snapshot to. Please change the location to a short address and on a hard drive situated internally. You may also be having problems with an internal drive and the fault is being shown up. Change the selected drive.

I have encountered this problem and i have had both a failing drive and a "sleeping" drive show up with PD error message. the sleeping external drive can be circumvented by using a "NoSleepHD" pinging product which works great on my system. The failing drive may need a complete replacement - drives are cheap and i would recommend you do this speedily.
A similar snapshot problem has been mentioned on the forum previously and resolved.

Jfinis - you're off topic and you should start your own new thread - please do so. [Moderator]

Thanks

Dafydd

Hi Dafydd

No external USB's connected, nor a sleeping drive. I had done the action

1. Select point in key frame
2. Take snapshot
3. Save

with no issues previously. All files are in the same location - have attached a screenshot of the file settings as they were when I have problems in that particular project.

It is only happening in the last part of the video I was editing. Have tried a few of my other previously completed projects and again no issues. It seems to be particular to after a point in the timeline where it was last saved.

oh sorry - also meant to add, am using a laptop (yes I know not recommended) so unfortunately replacing driver not so simple.

I did read the other problem which is similar to mine. Difference seems to be that mine until yesterday was working perfectly (I was so delighted with it - 3 friends have also purchased the product because I raved so much). And it seems specific to one particular saved project.

Gwen,
I have a few suggestions.
1. Change the Export Directory and away from the CyberLink saving location. Select a new position, for example: C:\Videos\Projects
2. I see in your Import directory you have used an exclamation mark "!" - avoid using such symbols in directories in case the program reads the information differently.
3. I would process (Produced the video unedited) the Video clip you have problems with separately in case it is corrupt or is of a type which has a GOP pattern not liked by video editors (being split causes/shows up the problem).

Hope some of that helps.

Dafydd

Thank Dafydd - have currently scrapped the old project and am starting a new one - but will follow no 1 and 2 with this one, and 3 if I encounter any more issues (so far so good). The actual file with the ! wasn't actually one posing a problem).

Release 2504 is also a bit more prone to hanging or artifacts generation in transitions. It is not consistent but occurs enough in a 45 minute multi-clip, multi-trimmed edit. Win 10, i7
