Will PowerDirector9 handle a 10GB AVI file?

It will handle the file if your system will handle it, but remember that it will take a ton of memory and a powerful processor. __________________________________

I routinely edit 10-25GB video files with no issues in PD9 with both a XP_32bit (4GB memory) and a Win7_64bit (8GB memory) system. I have no memory related issues at all. Editing the footage really does not utilize significant memory, adding multiple tracks, PIP TV wall type features definitely does, this however is not a function of the GB size of file in the timeline. However, keep in mind that an AVI file is just a video container, it may contain video of various different codecs, whether PD is compatible with your AVI could be a totally different issue.

Re Jeff: Codec is blackmagic. Is that a AVI codec that PD9 handles?

Perhaps this question was answered elsewhere but I missed it -

Does PD9 support the Blackmagic Codec?

I have several files received from a 16mm film conversion job and want to edit in the native format. I would prefer to avoid the potential loss of data with a third party conversion to another format.

Many thanks

James... you won't know till you try it.... let us know....

I rendered a 19.8 gig AVI this afternoon just so I could see how my transitions would act.... then put it in the timeline and used it.

Yes, PD9 will support a Blackmagic Codec.
Yesterday, I could not get the AVI files with the Blackmagic Codec to run in PD9 (or it QT for that matter) with most current build.
I subsequently downloaded the Blackmagic Codec (zipped as RAR file), uncompressed it, restarted my computer, and checked the file in QT, which established it worked - I could now watch the file.
I thereafter opened PD9 and loaded the file without errors.
