Thanks for the follow up. How bizzare about the burning software - it's the first I've hearx of it.

There is no need to re-check the shadow edit files box. Just leave it blank as your computer has enough 'power'. By ticking the box with a 'powerful' computer you will only slow it down.

Thanks for the reply. It was a new one on me with 35+ years of experience building machines and installing software. I hope my experience helps others. That is the purpose of this forum. The web is truly a blessing for those of us who used to go somewhere to work on machines beforee it existed. I carried a large briefcase full of floppies with the latest driverss I could find. Even so, sometimes I would have to call and wait a long time to talk to tech support or use dialup to download some diver file I didn'have.

Something I noticed way back with PD6 was if I was having a problem with a certain video project. Even after fixing a problem it still would not work properly. I found though if I started the project over from scratch it usually worked.

I am also with Neil, don't worry about shadow files if your computer is powerful enough.

For shadow files to work properly you need to wait till your computer processes the videos completely, which can take hours. This works fine if you have a slow computer and the time to wait until they are processed. Most people don't wait and try to edit videos before the shadow files are complete, which can cause problems.

I used to see that with earlier versions of PP. My students would be scurrying to get a project done, and it would cause problems.

On the lighter side, our local engineering group at Penn State U are currently having a "Rube Goldberg" contest, stating that they are making simple tasks ridiculously complicated, one student said he has been working on his project for two months and it still doesn't work!!

Guess what that brought to mind??

I'll be happy to point anyone in that direction. Dafydd, I am glad you sent the info to Cyberlink. I can't believe they didn't aready know about it. It surely must have been an issue in developing build 2504. I was disappointed by the reply I got from tech support. It was mainly boilerplate and pointed the problem partly at other dvd burning software that might be on my machine. It was a new problem for me too. It really brought back memories of days I spent working on Pagemaker version one in Windows 2 (yes there was such a thing). In those days, if you wanted to add adobe type faces or fonts to the directory, you had to do it one at a time in the win.ini file. What a chore. I had to learn it the hard way. This problem was easier to fix once I began to see what it was, It was just the process of thinking what it might be that was hard. I laid awake at night thinking about it. I was more worried about our church machine than my home machine. Fixing it for our church was really important. I have several youngsters who were drooling over the machine and dying to get into editing video. I couldn't put them on something that didn't work the way it should. Now we can go forward with it.

The resolution of your issue is pretty strange, the last firmware update for your SH-S223B in your dxdiag was SB02 in 7/31/2009. Difficult to believe your 5 month old machine didn't have 1 1/2yr old firmware installed. Sounds like your issue might have been very unique, glad you got it working.

What's even more weird is that the brand new machine I was having the same proble with at church has two brand new Samsung DVD burners in it. I only brought that machine online last week. I did the upgrade on those today and it solved the problem there as well. I was nice to see that Samsung makes it easy to do the upgrade. Pretty much anyone can do it without knowing much about the process. I'm not so sure the issue is all that unique judging by the number of posts on this thread and the other one that has popped up recently. Maybe not all of those posters are going to find the same solution, but I suspect some of them will. I couldn't believe how many different styles and brands of optical drives Samsung has at least a hand in. It is possible that other software either needs this upgrade now of will need it in the future. Otherwise Samsung would not be offering the upgrades. It is only a guess, but I suspect the problem has to do with operating in a 64bitt environment.

Has anyone solved this problem I have the same problem, I have a laptop with Windows 7 32bit Pro, 2 Gigs of ram. I'm using PowerDirector 10 Ultra and everything works fine until I get to create a disk the progress bar gets to 92% then the program crashes. I have a desktop with 1 Gig of ram and Windows XP Pro and it runs fine on it. I have also tried using PowerDirector 5 that came with my JVC Evario Video Camera and it Crashes also.
