I was told if you're going to produce to a DVD use MPEG 2, though I can't elaborate on this at all.

The video file type is dependant on what you are using it for eg. website use or homemovie.

My preferred choice is to 'burn' my projects direct to a DVD or BD and then 'render' (produce) the file as an MPEG2 HD file type (I use a HD camera) to be played on either a computer or my Western Digital media player.

Try and select the best quality you can as you can always choose a lesser quality later. Obviously the better quality file will take up more space on your hard drive. Happing editing
