I've been creating videos of speaches, etc. for our non-profit organization. I create the video with PD8 and then make copies with NERO. DVDs work fine on my player but don't always work for others. Any idea why? What's the best way to make and copy DVDs so that they work on most players?

Hi Mike

What type of DVDs are you using?

I use DVD - Rs and have had no problems with other DVD players.

However, some older DVD players probably won't recognise these DVD-/+R's as they were not invented then!

Good Luck Happing editing

Best Regards

Thank you, CubbyHouseFilms. I'm using Verbatim DVD-R. The copies work fine on my DVD player which is quite new. The person having the problem indicates her player is also new. I'll keep checking for other reasons. Thanks for the help.

I have had this issue pop up from time to time.

If I were you I would first burn a copy to a DVD+R and have them try that.

Verbatims are normally top noch, but there have been some bad batches reported over on the avs forums.

It is also possible that your DVD-R burned copy has some burning errors on it that thier player is being fussy about and doesn't play.

When I have had this issue it has always been a DVD+/- issue but you should also check to make sure that your dvd burner has the latest firmware. Land of fieros, North Dakota USA

Try reducing the burn speed, I never use the max speed, and never have issues with discs I distribute.

I've had similar problems, and not just with PD8. I have two relatively new DVD players, one Sony One Toshiba. The Toshiba never fails but the Sony can be choosy.
I agree older players can be a problem. Can't say as I've really found a reason for this.
If I burn a disc without "producing" then odd times I've had problems, but I don't recall any if I "produce" first.
A bit vague I know but it may help.

I agree, players can be finicky. I have an expensive Sony that only reads what it wants, and a cheap Panasonic that would read a paper plate if you could jam it in there.
Use quality discs, and slow the speed. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

I have used both and the only time I have a problem is when i use my VHS burn to DVD recorder. It will work on the same TV its hooked up to, but it will not work on my panasonic DVD 5 disk player.

Are you Finalizing the disk in the VHS burn to DVD recorder?

Those disk recorded in that type of recorder must be finalized to play in other DVD players.

On the type of disk that plays in most DVD players, I use only DVD+R, The DVD-R can be finicky.

The older players don't always play DVDs Recorded on DVD+R or DVD-R disks. But more of them will play a DVD+R than a DVD-R.

Another factor, Cheap DVD Players will only play DVDs recorded in the country of origin. USA=NTSC 30 Frames/second. Some other countries, are PAL 25 Frames/second. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.
