I have used both and the only time I have a problem is when i use my VHS burn to DVD recorder. It will work on the same TV its hooked up to, but it will not work on my panasonic DVD 5 disk player.
Go figure.... Technology
Are you Finalizing the disk in the VHS burn to DVD recorder?
Those disk recorded in that type of recorder must be finalized to play in other DVD players.
On the type of disk that plays in most DVD players, I use only DVD+R, The DVD-R can be finicky.
The older players don't always play DVDs Recorded on DVD+R or DVD-R disks. But more of them will play a DVD+R than a DVD-R.
Another factor, Cheap DVD Players will only play DVDs recorded in the country of origin. USA=NTSC 30 Frames/second. Some other countries, are PAL 25 Frames/second.
