Latest Nvidia drivers 266.58 not good.

The latest Nvidia video drivers for Win7 64 bit for a 460 series video card is producing weird artefacts when using hardware acceleration during production.

The latest drivers are 266.58, I installed my older drivers 260.99 over the top of the new ones and everything is back to normal.

Just to let anyone know to maybe hold off on updating your Nvidia drivers for the moment.

Cheers

my problem is not only the bad avchd quality with this new geforce drivers, my produced mpeg-2 streams have same artefacts, too. But not so bad (Large) like in the AVCHD Streams.

Thanks for that, just did a couple of HD renders tonight and found them crap, read your post switched back to earlier drivers and renders fantastic again.

Need to tell nVidia about this

i can't switch back to earlier version. Because my GPU Notebook Driver Support begins with a driver (261.xx) that has the problem, too. I can't use the Geforce 260.99 because it doesn't support my Notebook Screen (Flickering with this driver).

i hope cyberlink or nvidia could reproduce this issue with the bad quality

I have the luxury of a second computer (also a desktop) on which I have PD9. The main computer has PD8. Both of the computers are I-7/6gb/W7-64bit machines with Nvidia cards.

The operation of PD9 did change with the newest Nvidia drivers. But, video is quality is poor with all nvida driver versions so far. In particular, I see pixelation at scene changes in the source material as if the rendering routines are bit rate limited.
Editing is very sluggish in PD9 - to the point of being unuseable. Waits of 15 seconds to minutes after a split or cut are not uncommon. Editing speed did improve somewhat with the newest NVidia drivers.
A gradual offset in video/audio when converting 720p .wtv files occurs with the newest nvidia drivers, but not with 260.99.

In my case, rarely is there more than one track at a time on the timeline. There are no transitions, text overlays, stabilization, or other more complex operations.

It is important to note that the PD9 problems observed are identical on both machines, even though one has a GTX470 and the other a 8800GT.

The solution has been the same since a week or two after PD9 release - PD8 is re-installed on the main machine on which ALL the editing work is done.

With a new release of driver or PD9 patch I will retry PD9 on the second machine, but so far I get the same (bad) results.

PD9 has a lot of good things going for it - and I have contacted tech support to let them know what I am observing. I do hope that it gets working sometime - and then be able to get some use from the PD9 purchase price.

Hi Ken,
The only time I had problems using PD9 resulting in slow actions was when I had,
1. saving to an external hard drive which neeeded waking up
2. An external My Book set up which had a hard drive failure.

The first was remedied by using a ping software to wake up the external drive and the second fault was corrected by ensuring the drives were replaced.

The set up you have is likely to play a big part in the functionality of PD with one's 64bit system. Mine is not top of the range or anything like. If you could provide some basic information about content and a diagnostic, members could check and compare.

Thanks

Dafydd

The problem here is that if nVidia are going to break PD9 with every driver release CL is going to get fed up with releasing patches to match nVidia's driver releases!

So what can the long term solution be?, I don't see it being CL's responsibility yet it affects the PD9 users!

I have been using PD since PD6 always with Nvidia cards and this is the first nvidia driver that has effected PD.

Also it doesn't stop PD working it just stops you using hardware acceleration to produce your video. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

that's it. but the problem is not only the newest driver. in my case i had this issue since the last 4 official driver releases with my geforce gtx460m mobile.

i think there's an basicly incompatibility with the "fermis" and their drivers with Cyberlinks PowerDirector 8/9. I think a patch could be solved this issue.

I purchased PD9 last night and was puzzled over the poor video quality outcome. I will check out the older driver tonight.

Same problem here, 3 day's ago i have a Nvidia GTS 250, and hardware rendering worked great on producing AVCHD 1920 x 1080i, (Panasonic HDC-SDX1) so i belive this is the right format?? Cant see anything wrong, and the bitrate is aboute the same, correct me if it is wrong. Bought GTX 460 and installed the latest driver's, end up with very bad quality, tryed clean os install today and all update,PUH... Installed PD9 and tried again with same project, same shit, install the older Geforce 260.99 after reading this, works nice again
Thank You all.

If you have installed the new drivers OVER the new ones (as opposed to removing the old drivers - which you should NOT do!), then you can just use the "rollback drivers" feature by going to the device properties in device manager, to get the old version you had installed...no need to re-install the whole OS or drivers that way!!

Ok, i was "desperate", but i made a backup of my previous install, and with win 7 there is no problem:) so i would "give it a try". That was of course before i read this, i have also tried the certified driver from Microsoft download, same problem..

I'm using a GTX 480 and have had the exact same experience. As a gamer (I use PD9 for editing game footage), it's essential for me to have the latest drivers installed.

I couldn't figure out what was causing the problem at first; with the exception of installing the new Nvidia drivers, nothing on my system had changed. I thought that perhaps I had somehow tweaked the wrong settings in the rendering options.

I can say, however, that deselecting hardware-accelerated rendering before producing video solves the issue with artifacts. The downside, of course, is that the rendering process is much, much slower.

Disregard. Accidentally posted in PD9 forum.
