how to chose the focus point when using the zoom effect

Hey Guys,

How do you modify the focus point when using the zoom effect in a picture?

I have a picture of two people and they are a little off-center to the left of the photo. Using the zoom effect, the zoom aims at the very center of the photograph, when what I actually want is for the effect to zoom in on the two people in my photo. Does that make sense?

Hi alex24x7,

Instead of using the Zoom effect, try using MagicMotion.
To open Magic Motion, highlight your image and click on the purple square with silhouette icon, at the left of the timelines, to create what is often referred to as the Ken Burns effect.
(Note: MagicMotion is the same thing (basically) as VideoCrop, except MM is only for images, where VC is only for video.)

This tutorial made by Tony, should help get you started with MagicMotion.

Sorry to Hi-jack.

I am also interested in this topic. I am using PD9. Referring to the link - it doesn't seem to apply to PD9. The MM icon is not there to use.

The icon only appears if there is an image in the timeline, and/or an image is highlighted.

Looks like you have a video file in the timeline. Try using a .jpg or .png photo file and I think it will work with that. Don't think that feature( Magic Motion) is available with a video file Windows 8 Pro 64bit
Cameras. Panasonic AG-HMC40, GoPro Hero 3 Black

Hi Reg44,

Twincitybulldog is absolutely correct. And it's easy to get the two mixed up at first. But as was stated in my post above...

(Note: MagicMotion is the same thing (basically) as VideoCrop, except MM is only for images, where VC is only for video.)

One just has to keep track of whether you want to apply a Pan/Zoom to an image, or a video clip, and then choose the appropriate tool.

I was trying to do a zoom/pan on a still, and had no trouble getting into Magic Motion; but that's the only thing I didn't have trouble with.

I finally got the hang of panning (although the way you create the animation path seems counter-intuitive). I never did figure out how to zoom. There was a box that looked like it should be useful, but when I tried to stretch it the only thing that happened was that the animation path changed.

I'm sure there must be a tutorial for this, right? Jerry Schwartz
