Can some of the experienced users please confirm this:

Snapshot creates a file but with ZERO kb size using either m2ts or mov HD files. This feature worked well in PD8. Naturally, the file cannot be opened by ANY software. Win 10, i7

I can create snapshot for m2ts. What file type are you using? I use bitmap. Panasonic SD9, Panasonic TM700, Panasonic SD600, GoPro HD Hero.

OK. I found the reason : the clip was not on the timeline. It was in the preview mode only. BUT STILL, the software is obviously confused by actually going through the motions of creating a file name but NOT a file ! Another small but irritating bug. Win 10, i7

You'll find that if you have NO video on the timeline and ONLY in the preview, the false file is created. Win 10, i7

I find that if I have NO video on the timeline and ONLY in the preview, that a snapshot is created just fine.

I suggest your system has a glitch somewhere, not necessarily PD. Panasonic SD9, Panasonic TM700, Panasonic SD600, GoPro HD Hero.

Using .gif, can take snapshot of video whilst in the media room only, but cannot take a snapshot of an image in the media room only.

Ditto. One can actually see the software go through the motions of creating the file name. But, no file. Thanks for the confirm. Win 10, i7

Hi HD Edit,

Just confirming pjc3’s findings (I think).

- Placed 1080i mts2 clip in library > took snapshot > saved as jpeg.
- Placed 1080i mts2 in timeline > took snapshot > saved as jpeg.
- Repeated procedures > saving as png and bmp.

When I went to my designated output folder, all snapshots reported a file size ranging anywhere from 344KB -to- 7.9MB, depending on format. No snapshot created, came back with a "0" file size.

HDEdit;
I think Robert was saying you can't take a snapshot of an IMAGE file in the library.

Al types of video files in the library (mts, m2ts, mpg, etc.) allow the creation of snapshots without being added to the timeline (for me in build 2504)

Yes. I can confirm this too. The snapshot icon is grayed out when trying to take a snapshot of an image in the library. But then again, I’ve never found the need yet, to take a snapshot of a... well... snapshot.

Ah Cranston,

Be creative, look outside of the square, I sure you could come up with some use for a snapshot of a snapshot, you are the man for such a task

Hi Robert!

Be creative, look outside of the square, I sure you could come up with some use for a snapshot of a snapshot.

I'll try.
But I'll have to wait till CL fixes the “can’t take a snapshot of an image in the library” bug.

Those were early days Carsten, at that time on the PowerDirector forum there were only three of us who answered the majority of questions, Dafydd, Barry and myself, wow, hasn't it changed since then, the PD forum now has a wealth of talented video editors who are prepared to devote their free time and energy to assist other members resolve issues.

Because of the involvement of members like you and all those other talented members, the PD forum is now a great forum to be associated with.
