Cannot install PowerDirector 8
[Post New]
Hi.

I cannot install PowerDirector 8.

I had PowerDirector on my PC but had to manually remove it due to issues. Now when I try to reinstall PowerDirector, it says "PowerDirector was detected on your system. Please uninstall first."

Then an error appears saying "The product definition file lost."

I have removed all trace of PowerDirector from my computer and from the Windows registry. But it still displays this error message. PowerDirector is not displaying in the Windows Add/Remove Programs list, and I have ran registry cleanup software. I have also ran the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, but nothing seems to work.

Help! Many thanks.

Hi there,

I had a similar problem trying to reinstall another Cyberlink software. I contacted Technical support and they provided a specific cleaner tool to remove any remnants from the initial install. Once I ran this tool I was then able to reinstall the program.

I also did the steps that you described but was not able to get by the message preventing me from installing.

I would submit a service ticket....it took a day or two before the second response from technical support included this link. In hindsight I might have requested this cleaning tool on my initial ticket.

Someone else in the forum might have a quicker solution for you. That is the best answer I have to share I am afraid.

Regards,

Kevin

Many thanks for your help, at least I know there is a solution. I will get in touch with them. Shame the cleaner tool is not available on the Cyberlink website. Thanks again.

If it is available for download...I don't know where to get it. That would be a great thing to have available when you are stuck.....there are specific cleaner tools for each software...once it installs, it was literally a few seconds and it was done. It seemed way to easy....but it worked!

Good Luck!

Got in touch with technical support and they gave me the removal tool. I was then able to reinstall PD and it all worked fine. Woo-hoo!

Just bought powerdirector 8 and tried to load it. It told me to install previous version first. The version 7 that came with the computer would not uninstall, as I see now is a all too common problem. I deleted anything on my PC that was from Cyberlink and it finally allowed me to attempted to load. Now once it starts to load it tells me that I need to insert disk 1. It only came with one disk. I have had problems with every piece of software that I have touched made by Cyberlink. I have email tech support and have no response. I am close to admiting that I was taken by Cyberlink and need to throw this piece of junk away.
