Hi All,

I just installed a second HD in my laptop. I was wondering if I could speed up video production by reading files from one drive, and writing the produced video to a different drive.

The Configuration:
Drive C: 5400rpm, Drive F: 7200rpm
PowerDirector is stored on C:\

Here are three options I was considering:
Drive C: stores raw camcorder files, Drive F: stores produced video files.
Drive C: stores produced video files, Drive F: stores raw camcorder files.
Drive F: stores both sets of files.

Any suggestions/theories?

Thanks for your help,
Brady

Hi Neil,

Thanks for the tip.

From a performance standpoint, which drive should store the Import Folder, and which drive should store the Export Folder, or does it matter?

Thanks,
Brady

I think he is saying it is an internal drive, unless I missed something. You would probably have more of a security advantage than a speed advantage. You gain speed when both drives are being accessed at the same time. I don't know if that is the case during production. However, if the system drive crashes, produced files are on a separate drive. __________________________________

Hi,
I have a "number" of internal drives and externals. In preference i would go along a route Robert and I discussed the other day of having eSata (External Sata drives) and sata internals. However that isn't always the best or available option. I currently have Sata internals and USB2 externals. I do however use a "ping" software which Bubba assisted me with which constantly wakes up the externals (NoSleepHD) - quite important for editors as some externals shut down to sleep mode and take time to write to or write from.

I write to my externals without issue (at this time)

Brady, make sure you have sufficient space on both C drive and on any external/internal drive to process the video data and you should be fine.

Hi All,

Both drives are internal.

I ended up putting the raw video files on drive F:

Drive f: is a 7600rpm drive (vs 5400 rpm for c and this seems to make editing a little smoother.
