Image Stretch Mode in PD9 only has two options whereas PD8 had four AND PATCH 2504

Hi All

Am I missing something?

PD8 has four image stretch modes:

Use letter box to convert to 16:9 aspect ratio
Stretch clip to 16:9 aspect ratio
Use CLPV to stretch clip to 16:9 apect ratio
Use crop to convert to 16:9 aspect ratio

The 'use crop to convert to 16:9 aspect ratio' is absolutely brilliant as it doesn't stretch or distort the photograph/video file

PD9 has two image stretch modes:

Use CLPV to stretch clip to 16:9 aspect ratio
Stretch clip to 16:9 aspect ratio

Both of these options stretch and distort the original photograph/video file and the look is quite horrible.

Am I doing something wrong or is this another 'bug' on the list of many?

Hi All

Just another follow up.

Customer still haven't replied to this issue and I've sent another email.

I hope the new patch (third one in as many weeks) fixes this - NOT!!

Looking at all the posts on this forum (546 to be precise and the program has only been released for 6 weeks) and most with similar issues one can only draw the conclusion this product is 'missing' bits that were in PD8 and a host of other bugs the beta testers observed but were ignored

Hi Neil,

As a user of PD for some years, I have had my fair share of gripes (and inaction from tech support) as well. My only defense on behalf of Cyberlink is that the 64bit programme is a different beast and not merely a build on top of PD8. Also I believe they are no doubt on a marketing schedule irrespective of whether the programme is ready or not.

Most of the beta testers were a bit surprised when the process was finalized but that is market forces for you. I see it in every area of IT/Technology that to survive you need your product out there first. Even huge resourced companies such as Apple churn out half baked products just to be adhering to the marketing strategy.

It works because for most people they either don't experience the inadequacies or are resigned enough to work around them.

I for one am happy with PD9 despite my gripes with it because it does the core process of editing and rendering my 1080p60 material easily which none of the other low end NLEs can do properly.

Also not that I am defending Cyberlink, but a lot of problems on this forum are from people trying to edit HD video with old laptops, underpowered desktops with old drivers.

Find any software these days even the $800-1200 dollar stuff from Adobe and you will find problems. Unfortunately it is just the nature of the beast.

Knowingly selling a product that doesn't work as advertised is illegal isn't it? Trade Practices Act springs to mind.

Sure, some of the feedback comes from users with underpowered machines but there are a lot that have more than adequate machines.

To have PD9 missing some very basic functions that were in PD8 is a step in the wrong direction.

And three updates in almost as many weeks proves that CL didn't listen to the team of Beta testers. Happing editing

I think it means that they released PD9 according to marketing forces and are still fixing the beta testers (and new) glitches. This is my point. Marketing is going to win over stability every time. If they waited until they had a stable programme with all glitches fixed they will be out of the scene, broke probably still fixing PD3

I have been using the(Use CLPV to stretch clip to 16:9 apect ratio) on my projects and fine it is very good. On some photos, you are right, the aspect ratio is lost and the photo is stretched. I do manual cropping on some of my photos in Photo shop. I can't remember how good the feature was on PD8. The scaling of the pictures are in fact very good for me, but I am only am amateur at this. I have watched some of your videos and find thay are very good. The fire video was very moving.

for the obvious fault.

It sure does make it very difficult to add a photo slideshow when you want all of your clips to be 16:9
