Howdy,

I'm new to PD9 and I'm using the trial version. This is a software I'm very interested in.

I can convert an MPEG video, to editor - but with no audio. It won't split when I right click, and it won't go into the audio track.

Why no audio??

hello, luv
there is, check your audio setting by opening volume control icon.
somehow on an initial install, volume level is all the way down.

you'll get a chipmunk or mickey mouse effect on your .mpg or .mpeg files then read posts...
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/14165.page
32 bit v9 - import mpg file to make movie - soundtrack distorted

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/14587.page
audio sounds like chipmunks

etc...
and welcome to the forum.

Pepsi,

Thanks for the info. I did check volume and it appears all the way up. My speakers are turned on and I should be hearing it. The file is on my desktop where it plays fine. Yet when transported into PD9 - audio not there. It must be something simple I'm missing here.

I have Anthlon 64processor, 2.2GHZ, 900+ram.

OK, the 3 basics apply here. Please supply, see below.
I'd also like to have a 5 to 10 second sample video - unedited and straight from source attached to your reply post. Details of how to attach are given in the guide below. State clearly the camera source, name and model as well please.
Thanks

Here is one MPEG from my file. I downloaded the PD9 ultra version. The clip is from a Kodak Easy Share 7440 still camera. It plays in Quicktime.

I'm now able to hear audio in preview (I adjusted volume within my computer). However, it will not go onto audio track in the timeline - I get a little hand that won't allow for pulldown to audio track.

I'm running and AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500+
2.21GHz 992 MB of RAM
Windows XP Home
Service Pack 3

Also, I do search info before asking.

OK, Diagnostic file? The information it contains may help - we ask for a reason. You haven't supplied sufficient data to help yourself! 3 basics still apply - kindly provide the information asked of you. thanks.

An Mpeg file = a "Moving Picture Experts Group" video file format and these have the extension *.mpeg

What you have is a .MOV, a QuickTime file - that now alters the reason why you cant use the file and a different answer.

I'll get back to you after the video file is downloaded. Thanks for the video sample - really good bit of data.

Looks to me the Audio Stream in the video is not recognised by PD9.

Media Info:
ID : 2
Format : ADPCM
Format profile : U-Law
Codec ID : ulaw

I have referred the matter to CyberLink. My ref 155.

hey luv!
i've got a work-around for ya.
download and install 'SUPER', it's a free converter & video joiner program.

what i did was to convert your .MOV file to .MP4 file using the super. pd v9 recognizes the audio and plays.

okay, here's video & audio setting of SUPER program.
at the top - 1. select the output container choose any format you want, my pick .MP4; super automatically sets 2 & 3 and internal encorder, FFmpeg!
video setting - vidoe size: no changes / frame: 29.97
audio setting - bitrate: 128
let her rip! file will have .MOV.MP4 file extension. you can change it to .MP4 and use your pd v9 and have fun!

and happy new year!
we're video editors and there isn't a bridge too far! woohoo...

Pepsi,

Is the SUPER converter - in the Media Espresso 6 download?

If this is not it, I'm not sure where you found it.

happy new year, luv

yes, i think you can use Media Espresso, too. it's just like SUPER.
i got Media Espresso v5 with PowerDirector 8 Ultra but i had no need so never used it.
by the way your .MOV file can be edited in the pd v8 without any problem.

good luck.

I just upgraded from 8 to 9. I too am having the same trouble and the video playback is very slow with the Quicktime .mov files.

Ver8 works fine. I am applying patch right now. Will see if it got fixed yet.

It's still won't play right in the viewer acts like really slow motion and no audio. If you look at the clip properties it does not list audio properties. I have a desktop video editor with vista and a laptop with vista same results. Powerdirector 8 plays them fine and edits them fine.

Quicktime plays them fine.

I turned off the shadow file switch and it made no difference.

Nothing on the time line except this one .mov clip. I made 3 others around 20 seconds each and it was the same result. It's HD video. I tried different settings on the video camera as well. 30, 60 HD FullHD and WVGA 60 same results.

The only thing I have changed in the past 2 days was the upgrade from PowerDirector 8 to PowerDirector 9. I compile software (not for profit) so understand a glitch or two. I think you guys should have this fixed in no time.

Great product. Will be patient and use the super work around if I can locate it or just use ver8 until it's fixed. I am so used to using converters to get Pinnacle Studio to work for me with out it hanging.. but then again... ops that's why I left them. GRIN! Will hang patient for a while.

Voila! Pepsi rocks!

Pepsi's info worked (whew). Took some doing but used SUPER and got there. I was able to change to mpeg4 and all is well in PD9. Now on to editing challenges.

Thanks guys for the help so far. Without a good forum this would be too irritating. (It's challenging enough as it is).

I buy my software that has good forum support. It's important to me. It's enjoyable to me to read the tips and tricks and the Powerdirector 8 and 9 help videos are wonderful. It's heard to beat that kind of tutoring.

Its very frustrating to have a progam just hang or not do what it's supposed to do. I know folks that dropped the video editing on the pc and went out and bought a mac. I am always hopefull....

I downloaded the Super Converter but haven't looked at it yet. I must have 10 or so programs like this I have used over the past 15 years. Always a new file type to make a old program obsolete. I like Powerdirector. It's smart.

happy new year, mark.
yes cl is working on a patch so that audio will be there when importing the .MOV file and chipmunk or mickey mouse audio for the .MPG files.

hey luv.
i'm glad it's working for you. as you know it's a temp fix. waiting for a next pd v9 patch to fix these minor things.
mark has said it works in pd v8 without any problem.

until then have a lots of fun with your video editing software.

I found the Super Converter. It got funny to me. It was like they wanted you to download about 20 other programs and try them before you got to the free super program. GRIN!

My first test rendered the video part but the audio was clacking. I will try some other audio settings and look back at what you set your files to.

mark, super is like Media Espresso. since you have pd v8, used that until pd v9 comes out with the patch.
my main file types are .MPG/.MPEG, .MPG2 and .MP4. so i've reloaded pd v8 to deal with the .MPG audio issue in pd v9 and don't use the Media Espresso that came with pd v8 ultra.

my pd v9 is working fine. i don't have any other issues, yet.
here's my setup: asrock m3a790gxh/128m mobo with realtek hd audio v 2.55, amd x435 2.9ghz cpu, corsair xms3 4gb 1333 mem, nvidia 9800gt 500mb video card, and a wd raptor 150gb hard drive. yup, i stll am using western raptor 150gb hard drive! had it for years.
also secondary codecs i've installed on this comp are, ffdshow 2010-11-15, directx jun10, quicktime v769, & divx v812.

trying to keep it as simple as possible( THE KISS ).
happy shooting & editing.
