Spent the better part of the monring reviewing tutorials on PowerDirector 9.0, and using the search in this forum tyring to figure out how to do what is probably a simple thing for most of you....

A picture, where a 3D effect is applied, so you sort of have a slight rotation, or depth of field transition of a single image?
TIA!

Not so easy to do in PD, I'm afraid.

You need at least 2, but probably 3 layers, typically fore, mid and background and each layer has to move independently to give the necessary depth of field/perspective. Cranston has shown me an example that he was working on but it requires frame by frame editing, before making up into a video, as I understand it.

Maybe others have some alternative suggestions??

Cheers
Adrian

Thanks so much for the reply!
My question is regarding application on a still photo, not video...

I assumed you were incorporating the still image into a video. Perhaps I have misunderstood your requirement?

Hi Ripsnort60,

I’ve been experimenting in PD9 with what I think you’re asking about.
Attached is a snippet of a tutorial I’m working on to demonstrate how to create a pseudo 3D effect with images.

The main drawback right now is that the Blur effect in the Effects Room, does not transition smoothly from one degree to the next. If one starts with a Blur value of 0, and an ending value of 3, you can see the Blur jump up or down in value, as opposed to a gradual change (increase/decrease) to the next value.

When I finish the tutorial (which will be posted on the PDtoots channel on Youtube), I’ll post a link to it in this thread, in case you or anyone is interested.

Cranston, that is exactly what I am looking for (but not necessarily the focus point from one portion to the other, intentional or not)

THank you so much.

Great community from what I have read so far! Thank you so much for the replies.

I used Pinnacle Studio for many years (V8, V9, V10) just doing simple projects and such and am looking forward to using PowerDirector.

And the entire tutorial was created using Power Director 9...Not without issues during the creation from what Cranston and I discussed...but I think it shows what the capabilities are with this program.....It is a shining star on our PDtoots channel!!

You best yet Cranston!

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

And thanks for supporting what your fellow members… Cap’n Kevin - vn800rider – ynotfish – Baryddth (who have contributed tutorials to the PDtoots channel), are trying to do in sharing tips, tricks, and general instruction in the use of PowerDirector.

And special thanks to our moderator Dafydd, who by example, pioneered the way and concept of user generated PowerDirector tutorials.

Sounds like you are practicing an Oscar speech.

Whoops. Didn't mean for it to sound that way.

Also, I forgot to add… And I’d like to thank the NY Jets for beating those highly overrated New England Patriots last Sunday, and ending their chances of going to the Super Bowl. Click here PDtoots for a collection of PowerDirector Tutorials and Tips
