Playing A PowerDirector Created Disk on a Television

I have created many discs using PD that play on computers, but I want to create a disc that people can play on their televisions via a standard DVD player. Is this possible? What format should I use to create the file before burning the disc.

kas1234,

In the main editing window there should be tabs near the top. "Capture, Edit, Produce, Create Disc"

When you have finished editing to your satisfaction, click on the Create Disc tab, This will take you to the the Create Disc module. The screen you will see will look similar to the attached image below. The image is from PD9, but yours should have most of the same functions.

1 - Under Content you can add or remove content from the disc to be created.
2 - Under Menu Preferences you can choose from several different menu templates if a menu is desired.
3 - Under Disc Preferences you set the final disc burning options.

You will have to experiment with the settings to get the result you want. I suggest you burn to a folder to test if the burn will be successful before burning to disc. See image below on how to do this. If the burn goes without problems then you can burn to the actual disc.

These discs should be playable in most stand alone DVD players.

Hope this is a help.

kas1234,

Yes I have, I have been using PD since version 5 and every version allowed me to produce DVDs that played on standalone players.

There are various types of discs available (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and dual layer etc.) Some players are fussy about the type of DVD used, but most of the newer players will use most disc formats.

Thanks...hate to keep bugging you but you are really trying to help so I will...

When you are in the "Create" tab and creating the file, is there one that I should specifically use if I am going to burn it to a DVD to use in a standalone player??

kas1234,

Use the setting in the attachment "createdisc" in my first post. You should be able to use the settings that you see in the attachment.

1 - Select Video DVD
2 - Size will be 4.7 (this is a sandard single layer DVD)
3 - Set the aspect ratio to match your project (only two choices 16:9 or 4:3)
4 - Select HQ Best Quality (will hold approximately 50min to 1 hour of vieo) Check the estimate bar on the bottom left to see if it is estimated to fit. Use Smart fit if the project appears too large. (warning - this will not have the same quality output as the HQ setting.)

Once you have these settings you are ready for the burn. Remember to burn to a folder for a test first as I mentioned above. See Attachments in my first post,

Merry Christmas and Happy Editing.
