Copying clips from one project to another

Prior to upgrading to PowerDirector 9, I could highlight and copy several clips from the timeline in one project and paste it into the timeline of another project. I am unable to do this now and was hoping someone can tell me how to do it with the newest version of the software. I am creating a summary video and would like to merge contents of many individual projects into one.

Customer support is not answering my question and I have a tight deadline!

As far as I know this is not possible in PD9. I also liked this function and used frequently with PD8 and I hope it is reinstated with a future patch.

Not having this feature makes this software completely unusable to me!! I am not going to go through 30 soccer videos all over again to extract clips for the end-of-season video.

Customer support is telling me to uninstall Version 9, since we upgraded it from Version 8, and reinstall the full version. They say I won't be able to open any of my prior version projects anymore and that if the feature is still not available, oh well. I am not going to go through this exercise if the feature does not exist in Version 9!!!

I paid the money and called customer support. You cannot cut and paste clips from one project to another in PowerDirector 9. You have to produce the file from the first project, import that file into the second project, and detect scenes to separate out the clips. If you have titles on any of the clips, you cannot remove them for the second project. It's not ideal, but at least I haven't lost all of my previous work.

I had the same question... unfortunate, but it is what it is. Thanks for posting.

Don't use the solution they provided, because it results in a horrible video. The video that you produce, bring into another project, and use on your timeline skips and the quality is very bad. I had to redo two days worth of work. I now have to bring in the original video into my project and re-cut the clips.

I hope they provide the cut and paste functionality again. There is no work around and it is a feature that is required when you are doing sports videos.

Calvia,

Did you notice a severe degradation in the quality of the titles on your new video?

It seems that the best way for me to do titles is right from the project file to the DVD. When I produce a project to an MPEG-2 file and then write to DVD I get some degradation.

When I produce it to an AVI file I get LOTS of degradation.

Any update on whether they are bringing copy and paste back? I really need this.

No clue why they took it out. It was a great feature in PDR 7 and 8.

It is available.

1. Open project you want to copy.
2. Use the yellow markers on the time line cursor to highlight the clips you want.
3. A copy button appears above timeline.
4. Open existing or new project.
5. Merge clips
6. Move cursor to end of second project
7. Paste button is available above time line. Panasonic SD9, Panasonic TM700, Panasonic SD600, GoPro HD Hero.
