I've been testing out PD9's ability to crunch numbers and the results are very good.

Used 4 different HD videos on the timeline.
Applied 6 key adjustments using keyframes in each video segment.
Multi-trimmined each video.
And the result: a 2 minute avchd project produced in 4:30, with very good results. PD9 used all 8 cores of the processor at 99% with 3 Gb of memory in use. A notable improvement over PD8 in CPU and memory utilization. Win 10, i7

You mean 4 cores and 8 threads?

His sig states he has an I7-920 ... which is a quad core ... 8 thread CPU. Dell Studio 1558 (laptop) * I5-520 * AMD HD 5470 * 4GB RAM - 1066MHz DDR3 * 320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive * Windows 7 Pro 64 bit * BluRay Burner

Frequently hyperthreading slows things down, he should try it disabled.

Correct. The i7-920 is a 4 core 8 thread CPU. And I hate it when a BIOS doesn't let me disable that HT crap.

Everyone is correct,

4 physical cores,
8 logical cores.
Device manager will show 8 cores

What makes this CPU different is the Ram Bus is built into the cpu.
Smart Cache of 8MB, and has Quick Path Interconnect vs Front Side Bus
