Files Showing Up Way Shorter than Actual Length

Hi,

I've used PDR 7 + 8, now on 9. My drivers are updated, plenty of hard drive space, my system is good for HD, no anti-virus running when I am editing and I just patched PDR 9 to the latest patch.

Did not have this problem with 7 or 8, but having it with 9.

I import a .m2ts file it struggles to load it, then usually crashes. It runs fine in WMP or VLC. I change the file extensions to .mpg and the file loads well in PDR and it is only two minutes out of the 55 minutes it is supposed to be. Yes, I dragged the edge of the clip nothing happens, and the cilp properties show it as being two minutes long. Trim is not showing any extra footage either.

What is going on and how can I fix this? This is extremely frustrating.

citays;

Please free some space on your c: drive (at least 190 GIG) before proceeding. The same goes for any other drive that may contain a swapfile (20% free is a good guideline).

You have run out of drive space in this machine and it can cause ALL KINDS of issues. Especially large files struggling to load. If you run an error-check on the drive (Right-click on the drive, choose Properties, then tools AFTER you clean some space) you may even have some file issues starting to occur.

Empty the recycle bin, remove un-needed files, run windows internal "Disk Cleanup". I am sure other users will chime in here with their preferred methods, but please, start there!

For the record this is also happening in Mediashow Express

I would suggest that you NOT change the file extension. Can you tell us the source (camera) of the M2TS file? Please, provide a screen cap of the Powerdirector screen with the project and a 5-10 second, unedited clip from the camera.
Thanks

Not to hate on PDR since I have used 7-9 and I spent around $200 on their stuff last two years, but I just installed Premiere Elements 9 Trial and the file worked perfectly

Well I can't make a 5-10 clip of the file when it is saved as a .m2t file because PDR always hangs and then crashes.

It works fine in PDR when saved I changed the extension to .mpg, just that it only shows up as 2 minutes instead of the 55 minutes it actually is.

We aren't asking for a file processed in PD, just something native from the camera itself. Like shoot a 4 second clip with the camera, and attach the actual m2ts file here.

There are many video editing experts here and the file helps them.

Does the clip you provided load in PD9 for you or does it also hang? This clip (with no extension change) loaded correctly into PD9 and appears as expected.
Let the video editors group here "munch" on your clip and see what they can do.

By the way...I too have tried changing the extension of a "MT**" file to mpg in the past and got the same issue you originally posted (shortened length and crash).

That clip works. The clips I need though are not working in PDR, they do work in Premiere Elements though.

No, see when I keep the 55 minute clip as .m2t it loads then crashes, when I change it to .mpg it loads well but is only two minutes.

Based on that test (I am assuming here that the file came from the same camera, in the same mode?), I would say it is not a problem with PD9 and your native .M2t file. Your machine is more than adequate (now that drive/swapfile space is available) to handle this.

I suggest you reboot, and try a new project loading just the M2t file.

Tried that, still not working

I think it's something up with Cyberlink stuff, because I try to convert the .m2t file with MediaShow Expresso and same thing happens

Fred: HV30 is a tape camera and not a file source storage HD camera. The mts file provided is a captured file and not one as you were expecting I believe.

citays, What method and software were you using to capture the tape with? I ask because the HV30 had recognition issues with PD8 and maybe 7 as well.

I would like you to download a fellow members mts file and place it in PD9 - is it seen and recognised by your set up? Don't worry about the TV warning - it's because the file is PAL.

I have the competitors program you've named - and in a test render, on a similar/same project, PD9 rendered in 2min 11seconds. In the competitors, it took 27min 50 seconds. Two other editors carried out the same test on more powerful systems and came up with similar time comparison results. I and they are happy to stick with PD9 thanks.

Method: Firewire

Program: HDVSplit

I would use PDR but when I try to capture with PDR it skips, example here
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dn-EdfGgoUU&hd=1)

I also would use Windows Movie Maker to capture and that worked well, but now in PDR9 it won't convert the dvr-ms files to mpg like it did in PDR 8 because it said I need to install XP Service Pack 2 ?!? (I'm using Windows 7 64bit)

I've gotten alot done with PDR and recommended it to alot of people, but it's frustrating having these problems and then the file loading perfectly in Premiere Elements.

This is what I heard from Cyberlink support.

I would like to inform you that I have already escalated this case to the product and development department.

I need to hear something soon. Need to finish this stuff for a job.
