Ok.....I am not in bed just yet...

The Panasonic video cameras pop up in the forum from time to time. They are good cameras, but cause some issues when importing the output from them. We will know more once other people can get their hands on these files and work with them. Some of the footage is a very high bit rate and I think 60 frames per second progressive. So this high quality temds to choke many PC's with this amount of video information.

But yes....shooting in avchd lite would probably solve your problem...although I know it is a reduced quality setting....but it would be worth a try.

Regards,

Kevin

SECOND ATTEMPT:

1. Adding the clips and MP3 to library
2. Add all to time line
3. Moved them all around
4. Added Transitions (tried both cross and transition)
5. Edited audio
6. removed and added different transition
7. Added extra MPG file

I COULD NOT MAKE THE PROGRAM FAIL!!!

Closed the program and re-opened it...repeat all steps above...could not make program fail!!

I am a glutton for punishment....and your mov clips would cause me to hate PD9 as well!!

I placed the clips on the timeline and then placed the fade transition....My system stalled for about 10 seconds...Nothing worked....I couldn't click on anything...then it "caught up" and played back with no problems.

I don't know if it is a strange resolution that is causing it to choke...the clips are 848X480...I am not an expert about some of the different resolutions that are out there....

But it did cause my system to stall, and CRASH at various times.

Removing the clips from the timeline caused my system CRASH....

I can definately see the frustration!!

OK....Now I am going to bed!!! hahahahaha!

that's good to hear that I locked up the program on your pc lol I just played around with a couple of avchd clips that I made in the early days after buying the camera in the spring and I also couldn't freeze the program ! I'm encouraged by all of this !

Well I followed the exact procedures of FredB and like Fred, I could not get it to stall or crash, just would not fall over. Lots of snow I see, in Aus. we go to the snow, it does not come to us.

OK Billy;
In case you missed the recent post here. Go and GET the update/patch for PD9 to version 2330! This will include as many fixes as are currently available for the program.

Maybe even fix your YOUR issues (crossing fingers here). Come back after you apply it and test and let us know if this helps, ok?

Tried a number of combinations but apart from a bit of a stutter at transitions, and PD running a bit slower (nothing more than expected) I had no problems. I'm running build 2330.

Cheers

And I was running an earlier build 2215.....because I liked the default CROSS transition it had....Well I am going to install build 2330 and see if I get the same problem.

Insanity...it might depend on the build!!!

I installed the new patch first thing this morning and opened two of my .mov files, put a transition in and wham it froze up immediately. I then loaded two old avhd clips and played around with them with no lock ups. I still think the .mov clips are the problem on my pc.

You might try an experiment - copy and rename your .mov files to .mp4 extension. I tried it on your 2 clips and immediately got a waveform generated when imported to PD, subjectively it also seemed to be a bit "slicker" in the preview but I'm not wholly sure of that. Might be worth a try?

Cheers

Hi vn,thanks for your input,I tried it,same result,an immediate freeze up. I think if I continue to do video in avchd I'll be ok,I'll keep you informed.

I could not make my system stop or crash. But I did have something strange happen as explained below. Like Kevin I did get a short delay (5 - 7 sec) after the first transition was added, then things went back to normal.

1. I added the two .mov files and the mp3. tried various transitions, switching between cross and overlap. Editing and playback fine.
2. Shortened and lengthened the mp3, no problems.
3. Removed and replaced second clip (P1030233), no problems.
4. Removed first clip. Second clip moved left as I expected. Playback - no problem.
Here is where it got interesting:
5. Reinserted first clip after second clip. Played fine. Added a transition and the now second clip went black. Remove the transition and clip was normal.
6. Remove both clips, insert opposite to the order in step 1 add transition, every thing normal.
7. Remove the first clip, reinsert after the 2nd clip and the same effect as step 5.
Strange but happens every time on my system.
Can anyone else reproduce the black clip effect I was getting?

I could not get PD9 to crash or stop, using the sample files. I am running Build 2316. The only delay I got was the initial transition addition in step 1.
