I reached this point where I want to shorten the music track put no way is it letting me,I've tried different ways to the same end but it freezes up everytime, this along with putting transitions in. It's so frustrating because I like the program so much.I'm soon going to have to uninstall and find another video editing program. I've updated my graphics card today. It's a new comouter,I just bought it last month. (Ultra v.9)

I just tried shortening the music track to before the movie ends and it let me continue then I put it back (music track) to the end of the clip, where I originally wanted it and it still worked but this isn't an ideal situation....It's like putting the music track to the end of the clip was some sort of a conflict and would freeze ?!

Hi Billy,

Sorry that you are having some troubles.

Thanks for the DxDiag file and the screenshot.

I notice that the mp3 you placed on the timeline doesn't have the sound waveform showing. Did you turn this function off in your preferences? It should be ON by default unless you have changed it.

When I place an mp3 on the timeline it takes about 2-4 seconds to generate the waveform....If you haven't turned off the "Show soud waveform in timeline"...then how long does it take to generate the wavform on your system? Does it ever generate the sound waveform at all?

Maybe that is why it is crashing.....because it is having trouble processing your mp3 correctly for some reason.

Let us know the asnwers and we can try to move ahead figuring out your problem.

Regards,

KEvin

So the "show audio waveform " is checked in your preferences....yet it isn't showing a waveform on the timeline.

Can you convert the mp3's to another file type and see if that makes a difference? A wav perhaps?

Can you give some information about the mp3's? How did you create them? Ripped from a CD? Downloaded from itunes?

You might even try uploading a mp3 as an attachment so that we can download it to see if we can duplicate the problem on our systems...

I think the reason for the crashing is the mp3 files. Something is preventing the waveform from generating and I think this is causing the problem. I have never heard of this...at least I can't remember....but that is not saying much....I forget what I had for lunch!!

Kevin

thinking that the problem might have been solved.I started a new project with no mp3's anywhere to be found.I put 2 .mov files in the timeline from my Panasonic DMC-ZS7 camera, put a transition between the 2 and it locked up immediately

I downloaded the clip and it imported fine. I placed it on the timeline and the waveform generated in about 2 seconds. I was able to shorten the clip with no trouble. See Screenshot

I am not sure what might be causing the problem. If you haven't already tried to uninstall PD9 and then reinstall it...I would try that. Although....once you have it uninstalled you might be tempted to just go back to PD8!! But something is very strange with the fact that the waveform is NOT generating on your system once the mp3 is placed on the timeline.

But sometimes reinstalling the software corrects some issues...not always.

Maybe someone else here in the forum might have some ideas. You could as an experiment convert the mp3 to a wav file and see if the problem persists. I am out of ideas....as I wasn't able to duplicate the problem.

Regards,

Kevin

Great troubleshooting!

Can you upload a couple of sample clips from the camera? If you can keep the durations short....5-10 seconds is all that is needed.

Ok....Now upload a couple of clips....raw footage directly from your camera and we can see if it happens on other systems. Unless we can reproduce the problem then it shows that there is something specific about your system that is possibly casuing the lockups.

Believe me I know the frustration!!

I was answering another question

I will start to download them tonight so they are ready for me in the morning. I have to be up early to run the ferry.

Maybe someone might get to them before I do and let you know if they are casuing similar problems on their PC's. It sure sounds like it to me....

I'll take a look at it in the morning.

Thanks for hanging in there!

if the problem is the .mov files generated by my almost new Panasonic camera which is looking very likely at the moment I wonder what my options are, converting the .mov files to something else ? My camera can also record in avchd lite
[Post New]
Downloaded both MOV files and the MP3 file. The first time I opened them in the timeline there was no WAVEFORM for the MP3 file....added a transition and the program crashed when I attempted to move around the clips, etc.

Closed the program...started a new project, added the files to the library...THIS time, when I added the MP3 file to the timeline there was a waveform!

Navigated around, edited the video, opened edit window for MP3, no problems.

NOW!!! Added a transition (doesn't matter which one..tried navigating/editing any item in timeline...program froze!!!!

Ok.....I am not in bed just yet...

The Panasonic video cameras pop up in the forum from time to time. They are good cameras, but cause some issues when importing the output from them. We will know more once other people can get their hands on these files and work with them. Some of the footage is a very high bit rate and I think 60 frames per second progressive. So this high quality temds to choke many PC's with this amount of video information.

But yes....shooting in avchd lite would probably solve your problem...although I know it is a reduced quality setting....but it would be worth a try.

Kevin
