I am new to video editing. HELP! I have added a video clip of a wedding I filmed with a Sony Video8 camera. I converted file with a VuPoint convertor and saved it to a SD card. It plays OK on my computer but when I open it in PowerDirector video & audio are in fast mode. Everything sounds like the "chipmunks". Windows 7 Professional -- Intel(R) Core (TM) 2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz 4.00 GB RAM

32 bit v9 - import mpg file to make movie - soundtrack distorted

they're talking about same problem we're having. they're, cyberlink, also working on a solution...
there is a work around in the post; however, what i did was to reinstall powerdirector v8 ultra on an another computer, then i've converted .MPG / .MPEG files from my sony digital camera to .MPG2 file.
after that pd v9 did the rest. no more chipmunk and/or mickey mouse audio.

i like the .MP4 file production in pd v9. no more down converting from .MP4 to .MPG2 then back to .MP4 by youtube...

hope this will settle some of your frustration...

Thank you PepsiMan, as I got the same problem. http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/14892.page

I have, however, tried to convert the file .MPG file into a different format - .WMV using RealPlayer Converter, but had no success. I have also tried to make a DVD using PD8 and another application, but it did not work this time (used that application quite a few times before). So I suspect that I may have a problem with my camera.

powerdirector 9 ultra 64

i have two old cameras, too. i have sony dsc-w7 & h2. pd v8 ultra that i bought last year works fine with .mpg files.
pd v9 ultra does not like the .mpg files, hence the chipmunk or mickey mouse audio. it isn't your 'old' camera that produces interlaced .mpg files.
my setup;
asrock m3a790gxh mobo, amd x3 425, galaxy nVidia 9800gt 500mb mem graphics card, realtek hd audio, & 4gb corsair xms3 1333 mem. ffdshow v3631 codec, & nVidia driver v 196.21 installed. xp 32 / sp3.

last year i needed an affordable software to edit and create .mp4 videos. sony's software was too expensive for my taste eventhough it can create .mp4 videos. so i've settled down for pd v8 ultra. it can create the blu-ray .mt2s or .mts files but i don't have the recorder, yet.

if pd v9 is not backwards compatible with .mpg files, then i have pd v8 that is. don't have any issues creating dvd, either.
i also have sony webbie cm1 & bloggie cm5 camcorders that takes .mp4 videos. contrary to belief, webbie cm1 takes variable 7Mb/sec bitrate(1440x1080) progressive and bloggie cm5 takes variable 14Mb/sec bitrate(1920x1080) progressive HD videos!
i don't have to convert and pd v9 is just perfect...

good luck in your endeavours.
