Hi Philip,
We need the three basics on this one please - see below. Thanks.

The use of a stabilising tool in PD can be problematic for an editor. There is no fast rule to follow however try some or one of the following.

1. Selectively edit and not blanket apply
2. use wisely and less
3. Don't over expect success.

The stabilisation tool is seeking to average a visual event, it'll zoom in and will pick the less of the extreme movement. However it will jerk at some point if the clip chosen is overly long and has too great a variation in movement.

Choice of the format can be important. I don't need to use stabilisation. SD mpeg will have problems, HD mpeg will fair better to edit.

If you provide a sample clip a member here might try out and look for the problem. About 5 seconds long should be ok but longer would be better perhaps.

Tip: Try and edit in 5 second sections for example: 5+5+5+10+5+5+5+10 - in that way you keep the event and viewer happy. Watch a film and you'll see the clip length.

Dafydd

Hi Philip,

I haven't downloaded the clips but watching the Youtube clips it is apparent the mpeg clip has not been rendered at full frame and thus the effect of the filter to keep the subject stable causes the full video clip to be moved around the frame (see the black lines top and bottom) The Avi file will have the same movement but the edge of the clip is beyond the frame and hence you don't see it.

Thus I believe the problem is with the rendering which is not expanding the clip to full size. Panasonic SD9, Panasonic TM700, Panasonic SD600, GoPro HD Hero.

Your problem looks basically the same as the one I reported in 'Interlace problems' http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/14404.page

The only difference is that in the Mpeg version you have the image as a small part of the frame, but in both cases you have a 'double vision' of the skiers, which is normally a result of the interlace being reversed. It appears to result from the use of the stabiliser on a panning shot, where the background is moving and the stabiliser is trying desperately to put the background in the same position. The result is that the skiers are repositioned between the upper and lower interlaces.

In the case of your Mpeg video, it is also moving the whole frame, hence your problem.

If you solve the problem of the Mpeg image being reduced, you will still have the double-vision effect on the skiers.
I've come to the conclusion that the stabiliser simply doesn't work with shots where the camera is moving.

Gary.

I went thru this for months with a particular video I wanted desperately to save. I went to an outside plug-in program to solve this. I still edited my movie with PD.
I wish PD accepted plug-ins. Sometimes I get confused as to the market they shoot for. The new PD9 is ready for prime-time, but there are a few holes that I just don't understand. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
