Can anyone help me i've just finished creating my project in the timeline & it goes for 1 hr 16 min. Then went to produce it into a MPEG-2 file with a DVD HQ (only because when you take a look at the pink box) The remaining space says 3.9 GB so i thought that my project would fit onto a DVD without any problems. The timeline contains only images but I'v made them into slideshows . This project has taken me ages to complete & I don't want to have to edit as it contains very special photos.

Hi Pam,

Please can you check what build version of PD8 you have and ensure you're using the latest.
PART A from the guides below.

Update info: http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/support/powerdirector/patches_en_US.html

I've seen this issue previously.

I'd also like you to select to write to a folder, you will be checking to see if your PC can carry out this "almost" burn without writing to a disc, lessening the drain on your PC.

You can also opt to Produce an mpeg and then bring the file back into PD to complete the write to disc process. By opting for this method you are removing the render strain on your PC.

I'd also like to have PART B and a screen shot of your project attached to your reply.

To Dafydd

Thank you for your help - Im so new to this that I had to ring my friend to explain to me what you had meant.

My PD 8 version is Powerdirector Ultra 8.00.3022

When I'm producing my project I produce it in a MPEG-2 file format with a Profile Name/Quality DVD HQ my project contains only images but in slideshows - this should fit onto a normal 4.7GB DVD .

I have also attached a screen shot of my project I had to ask my friend how to do this as well. This is all learning - and you guys are so smart. We would be lost without you all.. and we do appreciate your help!!!!.

Thank you
Pam

Hi there Pam -

Quote: The remaining space says 3.9 GB so i thought that my project would fit onto a DVD without any problems.

Do you mean the remaining space on your PC's hard drive? If so, that's the problem.

According to this http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector/requirements_en_US.html you need about 10GB available to burn a DVD. If that is the case, you'd need to do a clean up and get some of your hefty files backed up on an external hard drive.

I admit that I'm a little confused about whether you're trying to PRODUCE the video to a file or BURN a DVD... or both.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Pam,

For starters, don't worry we ALL have started out as "newbies" at some stage.

I really do need the information below. If you're using Windows7 then the instructions are slightly different. Just type in dxdiag in the Start > Search space.

I'm trying to get from you all the data about your PC which members will use to help resolve your problem... hopefully.

You should have applied the update to 3022 if needed and that might have assisted you... .

WE are short of details to proceed on this matter.

regards

Dafydd

Hi Dafydd -

After a few PMs to sort out some technical difficulties, Pam sent the DxDiag by email.

In summary, I've suggested:
1. Transferring media files to C drive for course of project (previously working off external drives)
2. Updating GPU drivers (link sent)
3. Using lower quality setting on camera (JVC Everio HDGZ-HD620) to make life easier for PC

Here are the nuts & bolts:

Thanks Tony, Just need an update from Pam.
NOTE: Please select director's chir icon > File > save project as > browse for a location and save the .pds file of your project.

My second route of action would be a full uninstall of PD > reboot > reinstall program
reinstall content pack
install 3022 patch
Open project

Report what happens.

I'm having the same issue. The project shows 3074MB on the lower left corner of the Burn page but when I try to burn it to a DVD (4.7GB) it gets to 99% and then says there's not enough room on the DVD.

If I split the project into two parts I can burn to the DVDs just fine but I would rather have it all on one DVD.

My DxDiag.txt file is attached. I'm running PowerDirector 8.
