Already did that and it's still the same. When I opened the saved project I moved my mouse over to one of the titles and tried to right-click on it - it took a full 3 seconds before the right-click menu showed up. Everything is super slow. I'm going to try reinstalling PD8 and see if it helps.

Also I forgot to mention that I'm running Windows 7 64-bit...

Just thought I would let you know that PD8 Build 2704 works on my Windows 7 64 bit platform. Your problem is one that I can't say that I have heard of before.

I am curious to see if a thorough uninstall/reinstall corrects the issue.

Enter task manager to check if you have other programs interfering and eating up CPU cycles and perhaps heavily using the hard drive. I believe that you can enter Ctrl + Alt + Del to enter task manager. I've had this when my virus scanner would kick in. Stopping the scan would solve the problem.

Another thought: Did you build this new computer yourself of did you get it from HP, Dell, or another company? Sometimes these companies like to install their own junkware (free trial for a virus scanner or something else). That could be a possible cause. Q9300 2.5 GHz

This sure is a strange problem you are having. I don't think there are links to older builds of PD8, but Dafydd our moderator may be able to provide you with a link to try. The strange thing is that I have a custom built PC running the same Windows platform and haven't had that problem, but that isn't saying much, because there are so many other variables that might be at play here.

Sounds like virus scanning is interfering. Have you configured to exclude scanning your video source and output folders? Win8 64-bit Pro Retail

I just did another reinstall and now everything looks fine. However, I've imported a 16 min 720p clip into the timeline and divided that into 6 segments and added transitions between each. I find that when I click on different segments, it takes about 10 seconds or so before the program becomes responsive again. Is this normal?

That seems sluggish to me. There are new 5850 drivers that came out yesterday (version 10.7) Win8 64-bit Pro Retail

Thanks. I just installed the latest driver and it's still the same. I'm suspecting maybe my overclocking may have something to do with it - I'm resetting the cpu to test it out.

I vaguely recall someone else that was overclocking had some serious problems with PD8, too. Curious to see what you find out. Win8 64-bit Pro Retail

OTW is right I recall the same problem with Overclocking by someone here....although I have my Intel 920 Overclocked to 3.85Ghz and I think everything is ok. Every system is unique and can display its own set of issues. The fact that mine is running is anything definitive...I hope it might offer some help knowing it is possible to Overclock and have it work with what I do with Power Director 8.

Like Danny, I've imported a longer clip at 720p (H. 264 AVC format), divided it into segments and added transitions between each. Also like Danny, I find that when I click on different segments, it takes about 10 seconds or so before the program becomes responsive again. I've never had this problem before but wonder if it has to do with dividing and reordering portions of a longer clip--or with this particular file format. I've made dozens of videos with no response lags. The program is virtually unusable, so please share any advice. I have a newer WIN 7, 64-bit system running PD8 (build 3022).

UPDATE: I just chopped the longer clip into smaller segments before editing and that solved the delay problem. It was tedious but it worked for me. I would have preferred not to have to work through this two-step process, and would still appreciate any advice or software updates that would solve the slow response problem.

If using avast disable avast until next reboot, you see avast has resident shields that monitor activity.

Either double click the avast icon on the lower right in the system tray, or right click and open avast user interface (both do the same) once avast is open go to real time shields and click on stop and select your preffered choice I use the next reboot option.

It helped me anyway.

FYI, My system also seems very slow at times. Created a slide show using motion and about 120 pictures. moving along timeline would stall at times. Also, final rendering had sever "flashing" taking place on many transitions as if previous slide suddenly came full on. Then I combined a long 40 minute video to slide show. When creating the DVD it to over 1 hr to render a 45minute video. Made a change and tried to redo dvd--I aborted after 2 hrs and only 25% complete. Closed PD8 and rebooted. Back to 1 hr rendering time. Win7 64bit, 4g memory, Q660 quad core Radeon 8800gtoc video card.
