PLEASE help! I cannot access the "voice over recording room" feature. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Technical support says that my sound card is not working (except that it works for every other program but Power Director). I need to get this fixed so that I can complete a project and get paid.

Someone has to know what the issue is. Please respond.

Hi Paul,

Voice overs are not something I do very often, but I thought I would at least try to help.

1. When you say cannot access the voice over recording room, do you get any warning messages? Error messages? What happens exactly? Does the audio room finish loading? Can you not select your recording deivice? It's a bit unclear what is happening.

2. Just a short term solution, if your microphone works in all your other programs, it might be practical to record your voice over in your working audio program while viewing your project in PD8 and save the voice track to say a wav file and then import it into Power Director. Place it on the audio track and work from there. Just an alternate plan to get paid.

Regards,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your thoughts!

I do not get any warning or error messages. The software appears to load properly, but when I move my cursor over the microphone icon on the left side, it is not highlighted like the other icons are when the cursor moves over them.

My sound card appears to work. But I like your idea about saving the voice track as a wav file and import it. How simple! It's a great idea and could work in the short-term. Just wish I could get an answer for the long-term. Thanks!

While I have not done voice over recording before you asked the question, I did learn some MUST dos to make a voiceover recording in PD8.

1. You must have a video in the Main video track.
2. (May be system dependent) you must have a microphone plugged into the mic jack, and you must configure that mic input in your computer's sound device. (My computer has an auto detect, and pops up the dialog).
3. You must set up the device button in Voiceover room, for my system, it was Realtek HD audio input. Audio input, Mic volume. PD does not seem to remember the device button setting.
4. You have to select a profile for the audio format. Preselects are available, I choose CD quality. Radio quality may be is a good choice also. (A filename in the save as is a good idea, PD does have a default name)
4a. The button will now be red.
5. You can pretest the mic volume and make adjustments.
6. click the red record button to start playing the video and recording your voice.
7. The red button turns black and is the stop button, press Stop to end recording.

The above worked for my test. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.
