Hi, and Thank you for looking at my question. I want to convert my MPEG-2 files to H.264 so I can put them on a USB stick and watch them on my TV.

Using CyberLink PowerDirector 365, what is the best way to convert MPEG-2 to H.264, please? Right now, I am just feeding the MPEG-2 file into my PD365 and exporting it as an H.264 MPEG-4 file with a quality preference of 640x480/30p (6Mbps).

Is this the best way to go about doing this? Am I losing a lot of quality? Is there a better way of going about this using only the PD365 program? To be honest, the closer to lossless quality I can get with these files, the better.

Many Thanks in advance.

That's the best way to do it, using CyberLink PowerDirector.

But if your goal is simply to convert video to an MP4, you can do it all more efficiently using a program like Handbrake (free).

Either way will work. Handbrake though is a dedicated video converter.

Looking at your screenshot, you are probably using the best way to convert the mpeg-2 files in PD365 if those were vhs tape captured in the PD12 on your last post. PD365 allows capture in mp4 so you can save a step on the conversion. If you have many videos to convert, then check the help files for producing multiple projects.

Use the tools View Properties and the Profile Analyzer to determine the best or suggested format to use. See this post on the pitfall of capturing and using higher resolution: https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/118713.page .

You could just use a free video format converter as an alternative if you like.

I currently when I get MPEG2 file usually in interlaced mode.
In PD21 I save in HD size in progressive 60p
Preferably in MPEG5 or MPEG4 in case the Player used is not compatible like my old TV
In this way, in addition to increasing the size and sharpness, the video scrolls smoothly.
There are (app) third parties that do the upscale maybe better but it takes a long time.
