I have not used Photo Director 365 for a couple of years. I thought this was a one-time purchase, and it is asking me to pay for an upgrade. Will I have to do this every year?

Every Cyberlink product ending in "365" is a subscription-based product and each requires an active subscription to use.

As you can see from the current product page, there are 4 versions of PhotoDirector you can choose from: 2 lifetime licensed versions and 2 subscription versions.
