I had PowerDVD 5 and it worked great. Upgraded to 7.3 and installed successfully. Everthing seems to work but when I try to play a DVD I get the following message:

PowerDVD has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When I clik on explaination of error I get the following:

AppName: powerdvd.exe AppVer: 6.0.0.2128 ModName: dvd_x.imp
ModVer: 6.0.0.2026 Offset: 000403e8

It seems the version of your PowerDVD is 6.0 instead of 7.3. Are you sure you have installed version 7.3 successfully?

OK, I installed 7.3. It did not work. I got the following message:

PowerDVD has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience

Explaination of above error was a follows:

AppName: powerdvd.exe AppVer: 6.0.0.2128 ModName: dvd_x.imp
ModVer: 6.0.0.2026 Offset: 000403e8

Sooo, I uninstalled the 7.3 and tried the 6.0 trial version. I got the exact same error and explaination. I tried your PowerDVD 5.0
Suite and got the same error and explaination. I don't know what to do but what ever is wrong is wrong in 6.0, 7.3 and Suite 5.0.

Version 5.0 that came with my 2 DVD's works great. I can install it and it works great. Just thought I would upgrade but that is just not working. I'm holding off on re-installing the PowerDVD 5.0 in hopes that I can find out what is wrong.

Hello,

1. You can try to uninstall PowerDVD.
2. And use this tool to remove existing version. http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe
3. Try to search folder. C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{6811xxx-xxx}
If u can find it, please remove it.
4. Install PowerDVD and try it.

ok, I downloaded the file listed in previous post (It didn't say anything about PowerDVD uninstall, it said it was an uninstall for Windows Office? Anyway, I downloaded and ran the program. I searched for the file that you asked me to (It wasn't listed there) and I re-installed 7.3.

Install was successful, I got a message recognizing my two DVD drives but when I tried to play a DVD, I got the EXACT same message as before.

What can I try now?

1. How about try to disable one DVD-ROM driver?
Use BIOS to disable or disconnet the IDE cable form one DVD-ROM driver.
2. Try to install PowerDVD Ultra patch.

Hello, again,

Well, I downloadedl the software patch that was suggested to me. I disconnected one of my DVD drives and installed the patch.

Two things happened,

1. Unlike other installs, I did not get an initial message acknowledging my DVD drive.
2. I get no error message when I try to play a DVD. I mean it looks great. I get the title in the drop down list, all options seem to work but when the DVD play is initiated, the program just locks up now. When I use taskmanager to see what is happening, it show PowerDVD.exe not responding. The program will not close and must be termated by by using the end process in the taskmanager.

Can you think of anything else?
