Hello All:

Well, I just got a good deal on a Cannon Vixia HF S100 and is on its way. I was wondering what you guys/gals with Cannon HD cams are useing for SDHC cards. Just looking to see if you guys played a bit with other brands besides Sandisk that dident have any issues. Looking for a good price on at least a class 6 32gb cards.

Thanks in advance...

Welcome to the Canon club Jay! I use 'bytestor' class 6 32gb cards. My HFS200 takes 2 of them, my HFM31 takes one, plus the 32gb of onboard flash. That's just under 6 hours worth of storage for 1920x1080 24mbps footage in MXP mode on both cameras. No issues at all with these cards.

Cheers,

Thanks Andrew for the fast reply.

Looking forward to the HD fun and pass along to my son to get him started with my Mini DV.

Andrew:

Do you take the card out and put into a reader to you PC , or hook up your cam to your PC for downloading?

Thanks again...

Hey Andrew:

I did a quick search for the card you use and looks like its a card more in the UK then US. Is that correct to say?

Looking to see what can be easily purchased in the US.

Hi,

My PC has an inbuilt card reader, so I just put the card in that.

Cheers,

I think I have PNY in mine. I don't have much to choose from, but it seems to be working without issue. __________________________________

Hi Jay,

With my HG21 I used a Transcend 16GB and 8GB Class 6, and with my new HF S21 I am using a Transcend 32 GB Class 6 in the 1st slot and the 16 GB in the 2nd slot and have never had a problem with any of them. To download I simply insert into a slot in my monitor.

Regards,
George

I have the same CANON, and I use a class 4 on highest settings with no problem.

Mine also will not "let go" when I try to disconnect it from the computer. I contacted support and they told me that is not their problem.
It does the same thing on 7 computers and 4 Operating systems.
I also can not get it to download to comptuer at all with their software to which their response was it is not their problem.

Let me know if you have the same problems or if it is just my camera if you don't mind.

One note that I have found about HD recording is that you have to pay more attention that your subject is in focus, because it really shows. For christmas, I set mine up on a tripod and someone put a big present in front of the kids and the AF chose that to focus on, so the kids are very noticibly out of focus, but that present is crystal clear!

Hello Throw:

I just got the HF S100 del. today. Did some testing and seetings, pulled the card that came with it (PNY Optima class 4 16gb) plugged it in the PC and was editing in PD8 in no time. My built in reader was no problem........Great cam..... I read alot of himmen and hawing about the HF S100 about bad stills, Etc. Etc..., but from going from an old Panasonic PV-GS59 mini DV this thing is GREAT. The still pics are REAL nice. The only thing I think so far is the IOS is a bit tuff when trying to zoom in even at the 10x, alot of bounce, tripod a must. Mine cam with a cinematic 72mm HD achromat len which takes some KILLER close-ups.

Goog luck on your end...

Thanks for the reply

I definitely think they could have done much better with the stills, but I only use it as a camera in a pinch, so something is better than nothing.

But, I have a good camera that takes beautiful photos, so I am probably a bit biased.

With good lighting, and a tripod, you definitely get some absolutely gorgeous vids. Don't forget to turn Image Stabilization OFF when you are using your tripod.

Good luck.
