Power DVD 10 and Win 7 Delay???

Since I purchased my PowerDVD 10, I have had problems with it taking almost 1 Minute to just start up. Is anyone else having this problem? I have contacted tech support and basically what they have wanted me to do is disable all of my startup programs to get it to work. That doesnt make any sense. With other PowerDVD version, I didnt have this problem. I have asked them to come up with another idea and have not heard from them in 11 days.

Is anyone else having this problem, and what are you doing? Is this a Win 7 issue, or what?

I have W7 Ultimate and have no issues with PowerDVD start-up, but then I only have 10 programs that start with W7, there is really no need to have a multitude of start-up programs that clog up your system. I keep my computer as clean as possible, it only takes a few seconds more to load a program anyway.

Well some of them I may not need, but to have them running doesnt slow my computer down at all. My operating system is on an SSD and all my computer specs of just about the top of the line. My previous versions did not have an issue before, and dont know why this one would. I feel that if I didnt have a problem before and I have the top of the line system, and I pay hundreds of dollars over the years with a product, that it should be able to run without having to hold one foot in the air as I sing the national anthem out loud at midnight. I am beging humerous, but sometimes it funny what companies want you to do, in order to get there product running correctly.

I just feel there has to be an answer somewhere. And not have to disable all my programs. Cause I know that that is not the issue.

Thank you for your input though. I do appreciate your time.

My Power DVD10 Ultra takes about a minute to start up as well. I don't have my OS on a SSD but it resides on a 10,000 rpm WD HD. Windows 7 64bit. i7 920 CPU O.C. ~ 4.0mhz, 6 GB Triple Channel RAM, ATI Radeon 5770 in crossfire. I know all the verses to my National Anthem.....but it doesn't really bother me....I live on an island...so I am always on island time....no worries no problems..

You do have the option in Power DVD settings, under the player mode to have it launch when windows launch...then start-up time would not ba a factor.

One other slow start up problem that I have that is a Windows 7 problem is when I want to switch my Playback devices. I right click on the speaker volume icon on the task bar and it takes a full minute to launch so that I can switch to a different playback device...say for watching a movie and you want the sound to be channeled to an external receiver.

If you google phrases relating to PLAYBACK DEVICE SLOW STARTUP etc. etc. etc. you do get some information that it is related to windows 7.

One thing to note....if you get your playback device menu to be displayed THEN try to open Power DVD it opens instantly on my system. Weird huh? Try it yourself....I bet Power DVD screams to life in an instant if you have your playback device menu open!! Or maybe it won't...ahh the mysteries of computers

Well I dont have a problem with my speakers. I have done the start with start up,but then it opens itself right up, and then if I am not going to use it, I have to close it.

Still it should just start up. I also have a i7 960, 6gb of RAM, TRI Crossfire 5870's. Plenty of power. There has to be a software issue as to why it takes a minute for PowerDVD to start up.

As you say Kevin, computers are weird, when I right click on the speaker volume icon it launches immediately, click on playback devices it also opens immediately, figure that one out, seeing as your computer is far superior to mine.

Hi Robert,

That is interesting that you don't have the problem. It is an issue for some out there. It doesn't really bother me though...I just take a couple more sips from my glass of wine and then ....there it is!!

My point with SPEAKERS is that Power DVD starts immediately if your playback device menu is open on your desktop. did you try it? Or did you not try it?

If it doesn't make startup time for Power DVD quicker.....then I am living alone on an island, and am experiencing the difference on my own.

I did try it and it did open instantly. Im not convinced yet that that is it. But it is interesting.

After I closed the device menu, it still would start up instantly.

I will probably try it again after I restart and see what it does. Thanks for the help.

Well I restarted and then tried to open the program. It only took like 5 seconds this time. So Im not sure that it is the playback device part. I dont know. It isnt a life or death situation, but you build a fast computer and everything runs fast, then you purchase the new PowerDVD and BAM, everything comes to a halt. LOL

Hi Michael,

Just an update:

1. I uninstalled Power DVD 10 Ultra.
2. Reinstalled my original application of Power DVD 10 Ultra.
3. I then installed the patch 1601(I haven't downloaded the latest yet).
4. Rebooted Windows and then opened Power DVD.
5. A noticeable improvement. It opens in around 2 seconds as opposed to 50 to 60 seconds that I had been experiencing.
6. I will monitor its performance.
7. In the time that it took to write this message and before I clicked submit...I tried to open Power DVD from my task bar and it took about 50 seconds to open!
8. It seems that once you get the app to open and then you close it....it reopens quickly as long as too much time doesn't elapse. I don't have any screen saver enabled... Just sitting here typing.

Well I have the upgrade version to 10. But I just downloaded the trial version of the full version of 10 and even the trial takes a minute or so to open up. It is the latest version of 1705.
