I recently bought a samsung sh-b083l. It came bundled with a license of powerdvd 8 which installed and works fine with district 9, my first blu ray purchase. I was absolutely thrilled until Avatar...
I was prompted to update the software which I did. It now plays... but... skips... every ... second then randomly all throughout an entire scene, then it's fine for a bit etc.
I've tried other softwares including a trial of powerdvd10 and none solve the issue. I stopped watching pretty soon. It's just unwatchable.
Am I the only one with this issue?

Breakdown of spec:
Powerdvd v 8.0.3228g.50
SR DVD100209-01
windows 7 64-bit and xp 32-bit (same results in both)
Audio: soundmax integrated digital hd audio
audio driver: 6.10.2.6585
DVI connection
Dual monitors as extended mode (same results as single)
Avira Antivir anti-virus (same results with that off)
Nvidia 8800gts with latest drivers
Both monitors are hdcp etc.

No you are not the only one! I'm hoping its not my blu-ray player? Something that may have to do with the buffer cache?

Yeah having the same issue. Soon as I get home I will post my info but in a nut shell.

"I have Power Dvd 8, put in Avatar it said it needed to be patched so I did. Now my Blu-ray plays choppy on sound and video.
So I tried Power DVD 10 and I get the same thing.
So I put in a Blu-ray I had just watched and it now plays choppy?
Updated my video drives and reloaded my audio drivers just to be sure. All my Blu-ray now play choppy since I tried to play Avatar on my system."

Windows 7 64bit

Mine is maintaining audio sync on the whole. Video and audio on my District9 blu ray seemed fine when I tried it after the update, so in my case Avatar is the only problem child atm. With a quad core processer and 4 gigs of ram (or in your case, darvin, 12) this machine should whizz through this. I use the machine to make HD vfx on.

I've sent the same stuff off to technical support.
The patch recently released was meant to allow powerdvd to cope with new encryption on the disc or so I've read elsewhere at least. All these DRM things are doing is slowing down the uptake of blu ray purchases surely? No encryption ever goes without being broken at some point.

Got my response..to purchase the full version of Power DVD 10.
Why the hell would I buy something that the patch disabled any blurays from playing on my system on P8 or P10?

TMT3 here I come I guess.

Gee whizz.
I've since purchased Fargo on blu ray... also 1080p, dual layer, and importantly 20th century fox too. So the same as Avatar, only without the latest encryptions. Guess what? It plays flawlessly. I was able to fully enjoy this film especially as the only other version I'd seen was a wonky VHS my mum used on a course!
But Avatar... problem child.

If you did purchase PowerDVD 10, I wonder if you'd get a full refund if your blu rays still didn't play. It's a really rubbish response in my opinion because if you're already using another version of PowerDVD which you have paid for you should be able to play whichever titles take your fancy and play them well! A better response would be to give you a free upgrade imo.

Oh im not looking for a free upgrade just for it to work. I think PowerDVD handles sound better then TMT3. I just hate that on P8 (which I did purchase/bundeled) worked, I patch it for Avatar and now NONE of my Blurays play. Trial of 10 was that if it worked I would buy it. But im being told to buy it without knowing if it will resolve my issue or not.

Just as stated NO blurays play on my system with any power DVD product. I did get the trail of TMT3 and it works so I will go with that but I did give them a chance.

So I DID purchase P10 Ultra. Prior to the install I uninstalled Pdvd, cleaned up my registry. Installed P8, Updated to 10 Ultra applied 161 patch... Same issue

I got un upgrade to powerdvd 9 oem 2ch as it is 'fully windows 7 compatible' even though I mentioned getting the same results in XP on the same machine.
So lo and behold after downloading and then updating that was choppy too on Avatar.

Annoyingly looking about on the net, many people are okay with powerdvd and avatar.

Do you have a built in sound card on your motherboard? I was wondering if it's related to that. I remember about 8 years ago switching to a dedicated card helped with some issues I was having back then, but I dunno, these things are controlled a heck of a lot better now.

Yeah on board sound. I would say that is a sound issue but for using the trail of TMT3 and Pdvd 8 prepatch worked just fine.

Just had another reply from tech support. Well I say that, it was the SAME reply, indicating to me that this is an entirely automated system and utterly useless imho.
Alternatives are looking favourable.

There's a fix for this if you have nvidia graphics. download the latest beta display driver 257.15 . I have no skipping on any movie anymore. hope this helps.
