PD8 2704 Delux - burning issue

I have started to experience a slightly random burning issue.

Recently completed project built up of a number of smaller 'mini' projects then put together in one master project for burning

Burn runs through completely successfully

When played in DVD player reaches a random point playing fine then reverts to the main menu.

3 different attempts = 3 different points where the error occurred; between minute or so in right up to nearly the end.

Have tried producing the whole project into one file then burning; same result

However; rewritable disc worked OK

Discs are Sony DVD+R which have used successfully before; same batch
Computer / burner is the same
DVD player is the same
Working method is the same

Only thing that's changed is the PD version number?

Anyone any thoughts / logical tests to carry out to try and narrow the problem down?

Since a DVD RW was successful, these burn at a lower rate relative to most DVD+R's. Try setting the burn rate of your DVD+R project to a lower rate and see if you are successful.

Hi Jeff;

I have not been able to find an option to vary the burn rate within PD8?

Create Disc > Burn > Configure Drive icon near the top right of the window. See attached pic.

Took it down to 4x burn speed and has worked OK; so thanks for that

Curious as to why; as this is the first time have ever had to touch the burn speed? Director Suite 365

Turning your burn speed way down has been the solution to most burning issues ever since the first DVD burners came out. It seems as though manufacturers want bragging rights that their burner is faster than the competition and in doing so push the speed too high to be reliable. Many, many factors can affect burn speeds and I won't second guess your issue. The following site does some good testing on optical drives and real capacity checks, http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Home.aspx?CategoryId=1 scroll down and read the "DVD Burning at 22x" article for instance or your particular burner if listed. One must also keep in mind that big projects that use past about 49mm are at substantially more risk of having burn failures than smaller projects. Scroll down even further for a somewhat dated article of "DVD Burning, Speed vs Quality" on July 16, 2007 and you will see the major conclusion of 4x or 8x were about the best burn settings.
