PD365 doesn't fully shut down
[Post New]
Since upgrading from PD17 to PD365 an issue has appeared where PD365 won't fully shut down. It does not free up it's memory and is still in the task list. The result it that PD365 won't start again. It just ignores (doesn nothing) when opening the icon for it. I have to go into the Windows task manager and manually end PD365. Then it will start up again with the desktop icon. See attached screen prints taken after exiting PD365 via the X in the upper right corner of the window.

I'm on Windows 10 with all the latest updates.

PD17 does not do this.

Is this a known issue, or do I need to report it (and then spend days convincing CL it's really happening).

It is a known issue with every version of PD.

Several have noted a need to leave it sit idle for several minutes for PD processes to shut down. You might try a 3-5min wait and see if it finally shuts down properly.

I'm convinced that PD21/365 has a "memory leak" issue. When I edit a large project for a few minutes, then exit PD, there is no residual PD entry in the task manager, and PD will restart. However, when I edit the same project for several hours, and then exit PD, there is a residual process in the task manager showing dedicated memory, which reduces in size down to about 600M, and then stays that for forever (well, at least 30 minutes) - see image. PD won't restart. If I "end" the process with task manager, PD will then restart.

P.S. I run dozens of programs on my PC every week and none of them have this problem. It is definately a PD problem and not a Windows problem or "user error".

Has this issue been reported to CL as a bug? Hopefully the answer is yes, or that someone braver than me will do so. Whenever I report a bug to CL I'm in for days of thrashing around meeting their "do this" stuff that's irrelevant to the provlem (boiler plate hoop jumping) until they finally admit to the issue. I'm sure many give up before getting to this point.

I've only seen that a few times from some friends and it appeared PC hibernation and shadow files played a role. I see you are using shadow files. You might turn them off and see if you have any better luck with PD shutting down correctly. If it behaves normal, maybe manually delete the shadow files and activate again to regenerate them and make sure all shadow files are generated prior to doing any edits or closing PD.

I do not have the issue on rather large multi-track edits and actively using PD on the project for hours.
