hello,

Just wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing issues with getting pcm 5.1 to work.

I have a xfx radeon hd5670 1gig running over hdmi to a pioneer hd reciever, I get all hd audio ie, dts hd, dolby trueHD...etc working on powerdvd 9 ultra, I also get pcm 5.1 when I watch cars but I have 3 other blu rays which refuse to play pcm 5.1 in anything other than 2.0, powerdvd shows it as outputting 16bit, when I play cars I get 5.1 32bit which i think is meant to be 24bit.

I'm running a athlon x2 4200 2gig ram windows 7 ultimate 64bit, powerdvd 9 latest version ultimate, I've also tried the latest ati drivers and the realtek hdmi drivers, both seem to work the same for me, I get all hd audio except pcm 5.1 on my movies only cars seems to work, the other movies are coyote ugly, casino royale, spiderman 3 that have pcm 5.1 but dont playback in 5.1, also I have tried changing the speakers settings in mce to 5.1 but made no difference, i've tried the drifferent drivers but am at a loss, does anyone else have similar issues with pcm 5.1?

primarily running media center edition, controlled via microsoft mce remote, I have the latest catalyst 10.2 drivers installed and latest realtek hdmi drivers for ati 2.42, when I run powerdvd 9 v2528 I have it set for non decoded high def audio, when I select to play using pcm 5.1 powerdvd switches to this but outputs 16bit audio, the pioneer reciever says its pcm 2.0, I'm running the reciever in pure direct pcm so no altering of the stream. I have a 7.1 surround setup but use it for both 5.1 & 7.1 were applicable, the only movie that actually plays in pcm 5.1 is cars, it shows up on pdvd 9 as 24 or 32 bit.

I get the impression that powerdvd is downsampling the pcm track but its bitstream via hdmi straight to the reciever.

update,

I got 5.1 pcm working, I've descovered that some blu rays have pcm 24bit which automatically play when bitstreaming but, to play just plain pcm from older blu rays I had to have windows speakers set to 5.1 or 7.1, poweredvd doesnt make that change as it seems windows controlls the speaker setting.

This is annoying as my setup best suits using windows speaker setup as 2.0 then when I play a blu ray/dvd powerdvd bitstreams to the reciever which then plays correct soundtrack, but with pcm 5.1 not being 24bit, powerdvd passes the sound onto windows instead of streaming it the reciever.

Are you still having problems. I have powerdvd ultra 14 using onboard HDMI connected to my AV Reciever. All other formats work fine: DTS Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD etc. Only PCM 5.1 does not work. It only outputs PCM 2.1. Mostly with older blu rays. I set Windows speaker to 5.1 like you suggested but still only plays through left and right channels. Any suggestions?

For me, I decided to transcode pcm 5.1 to ac3 5.1 before adding into PowerDVD for playback, therefore I will not encounte the audio playback issue here.

Hello thanks for your response. How did you transcode from pcm 5.1 to ac3 5.1? Is this a setting somewhere in powerdvd or is it in Win7? Or do you need something else? Thanks in advance for your help?

Hello a quick search I found you need some type of software to do the transcoding from pcm to ac3. I want to be able to play directly from my original blu ray disc on my blu ray drive so I think your recommendation would not work for me. Thank you for your time. I am understanding you correctly right? Do you have any other comments? Is this a bug with powerdvd you think?

hello, Does PD Ultimate recognize a dts 5.1 encoded soundtrack? Also, does the same software recognize ASIO drivers not just the WDM drivers for 5.1 playback?
