POWER DVD 9.0 Ultra compatibity with ATI 5450 video card

I'm considering upgrading my HTPC's video card to a ATI 5450 in order to output HD audio from Blu-ray discs via a HDMI port. Does anyone know if the 5450 card will support ATI Stream optimization for TrueTheater HD technology? I see that the 5700 and 5800 series cards support ATI Stream optimization for TrueTheater HD technology. These cards draw more power so I would have to upgrade my power supply and they are fan cooled so they will make more noise which is minus for a HTPC, not to mention the added expense.

i'd like to know this too. according to ati's site, the 5450 can do stream (http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-5000/hd-5450-overview/Pages/hd-5450-specifications.aspx), but it's not specifically listed on the stream page, even though 5500s and 5600s are (http://developer.amd.com/gpu/ATIStreamSDK/Pages/default.aspx). but interestingly, the 5500s and 5600s are absent from cyberlink's page about truetheater compatibility using stream (http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd/hardware-support_en_US.html).

it would be nice if this was working since right now, the 5450 is the only (except for one massive 5750) fanless option in the 5000 series, at least according to the egg.

i (finally) got everything working correctly, and i can say that, yes, ati stream does work with the 5450, at least my powercolor 512MK3-SH.

With the latest upgrade, I can't get PowerDVD to even open. I see a brief hourglass, and then nothing. If I remove the card and use the onboard graphics (HDMI), I get PowerDVD to work, but of course no streaming.

I'm using the realtek driver.

Where do you find the ATI stream box?

btw, are you trying to get ati stream to offload video processing for truetheater hd or are you trying to get audio bitstreaming to work?

I tried the 2.42 drivers.

What motherboard are you using? Ergoman

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_overview.aspx?id=en-us0000037

i had some problems on another system that was (kind of) fixed by completely uninstalling pdvd, making sure my hdmi drivers were working correctly in windows (by going to sound-playback devices and testing the hdmi audio output) and reinstalling pdvd.

What kind of motherboard did the other system have? Uhhh. What does "kind of fixed" mean?

I looked at your motherboard. I have an Asus AMD AMD+ M3N78-EM motherboard. http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=amYCbidk7vhOQLWp

That means I would have to buy a new processor and new memory. I bought the motherboard because I thought it would support bitstreaming. I should have looked closer. I bought the 5450 for the same reason.

Thanks for your help.

your motherboard, and for that matter, processor and memory, have little to do with bitstreaming. that's all done by, at least in your case, the video card. if your card is working with your current setup, that is, you can successfully test the hdmi sound output through sound manager, than everything is, theoretically, in place for bitstreaming to work. it just seems like, in these "early" days of htpc bitstreaming through video cards, all your stars need to be aligned for it to work correctly.

did you try what i suggested in my previous post? "kind of fixed" means another part of the system wasn't working correctly, so i replaced the whole system.
