I just started using Power Director 8. I've been editing my home HD videos and have gotten about half way through the project. I saved it before closing, but now I can't get it to load. I don't get an error message specifically. It just says the program has stopped responding and needs to close after getting 99% loaded (not me, the project!). I have rebooted and turned off my computer multiple times, but still get the same problem

Hi Jeffrey,

Appears to me you have possibly a corrupted saved file.

OK, don't panic.

There are a number of choices.
1. Take a look here: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/9621.page#41704
Look for the AUTOSAVE folder. PD autosaves a project unless you've unchecked that option, so you have a back up. Go search the location for the last auto saved project file.

2. You could decided to explore the pds file yourself and examine in a text editor the point of corruption (it'll be at the end of the script). Compare the information with another pds file.

The lesson is to use the: File > Project save as, and save your project in numerical order manually regularily so you always have a fall back - this is one I do and what I recommend to ALL editors.

XXXX001.pds etc

You may be able to recover the information, I hope so for your sake. It is a salutary lesson to save and save regularly. A lesson all of us have had to learn.

Jeffrey,

also, how large is your project? Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted... but to weigh and consider.

You may also have an issue - its not clear from your post - if you have autoload last project on, in which case PD will try to load the corrupted file at startup and then .....

There is a way to switch it off outside of PD by altering a registry key. If this is the problem and other solutions fail and you want to try it, PM me for the details.

Alternatively uninstall and reinstall will normally clear that option

Cheers

Where is File > Project save as? I don't mean to sound stupid, but there is no file button in the upper left hand corner.

Never mind, I found it.
I retrieved a hidden file from the App Data. Lost some work, but not much. It's very frustrating with this program that it is so unstable!

I got the program up and running to where I could continue adding clips to my project, making frequent saves. When I went to add a chapter point, the program crashed again and closed without a specific error message. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit with adequate processing power I would think. the video card is an Nvidia GT 220 with 1 GB of memory.
