Burning unsuccessful:

Possible cause:AuthoringMgr could not do file access for temporary files

I've been struggling with this error message for a while now.

PD8 build 1930
Windows Vista Home premium sp2 64-bit
AMD Phenom 9650 Quad Core, 2.30 GHz
8GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9100

I can burn short(12-15 min.) dvd's and produce long (50 min) mpeg2 videos but I can't burn the 50 min video to a dvd.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling PD, I've tried the upgrade to build 2508 and that wouldn't even burn a full 15 min dvd, just the audio. That prompted the reinstall to go back to 1930.

I've used the CCleaner.

I've stopped programs running in the background and eliminated startup programs.

At first it would burn about 25% to dvd, then jump to 100% and give me the error. Someone suggested producing the video first, then burning to DVD. It got all the way to 58%, then gave me the same message.

Am I just running out of memory?

You shouldn't be out of memory. Have you tried burning to a folder instead of straight to disc? __________________________________

I did and it couldn't do that either. I think it said burning successful but the file only had one .vob file in it containing 5xx MB, while the video is 3197 MB.

There's no menu or transitions between clips, just a series of 5 min. clips put together.

I might be willing to try that again. I was having this same problem earlier, but not on every disc, only occasionaly. But it was happening more and more often so I upgraded to build 2508.

After that I couldn't even burn a 15 min dvd. It would say burn successful but video would stop halfway through and the audio kept playing. So I when back to the original version that I have to at least be able to burn short dvd's.

Hi Jeremiah,

Have you taken this issue to Technical Support?
http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/index.do
Please do, it is their backyard task.

I'm concerned the AMD Phenom and Vista package might have a problem... I recall something similar a long while back.

I started communicating with them a day or two ago. I tried their suggestions but to no avail. I thought I'd give the forums a shot since there seem to be so many experienced users here. I appreciate everyone's input, too...so thanks!

I'll ask tech support about an issues with the AMD and Vista combo. I have a free upgrade to Win7, I just haven't had time to go through the download and setup yet.

If you have a tape drive HD camera, I'd think twice about W-7!
But right now you have other issues to resolve. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.

I do not think win7 solves your problem. I have exactly the same problem as you. I have Windows 7 64bit and intel core i7.

I've had the same problems as you describe.

With short videos (~10min), I get "burn successful" but it only produce a fraction of the film.

With long videos (~50 min), I get "Burning unsuccessful: Possible cause:AuthoringMgr could not do file access for temporary files"

BUT, even though I dont see the logic behind it, I've found a workaround. If I first produce a straight MPEG-2 file in the project and THEN burn the same project to DVD, it somehow works.
It seems like a bug somewhere in PD8...

Jonas,

I read your thread(or one like it) and tried that "workaround" but it didn't work for me.

I have a request to all those who are experiencing an issue.

1. Attach a screenshot of the error message. PART F & E
2. Attach a screenshot of the PowerDirector User interface - Edit mode and of your project. PART F & E
3. Attach a diagnostic file of your system. PART B

I would also like to know exactly what video files you are attempting to edit. PART D. I would appreciate a sample file if it is a camera sourced file. I can arrange this after the test.

I would expect all of you to create a sample project and test it to see what results you get. Post your results here please. PART H

The aim is to isolate and to check similarities. PART D

The information you'll require can be found in the guides.

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7958.page
Subject: PowerDirector - information we request and tasks to carry out.
PART A - name it
PART B - provide it
PART F - use them
PART E - an alternative
PART D - presentation is important
PART H - disc test

Ok,

Where I am at right now is just being able to provide the dx file. The program disappears at a certain point and I'm back to my desktop screen. So I can't provide any other information (screen prints etc.). Also, when I open the program back up, if I try to create a menu or modify a menu, the program disappears.

I will uninstall the program, reinstall and run the DVD burn with and without the upgrade. and provide all the info you've requested.

Can you tell from the attached dx file, if there is some conflict. Maybe I need to disable something while running this program.

Test Overview:
Uninstalled PD8, Reintalled with out upgrade

Ran Project, which failed at 21%

Provided documentation in form of included attachments.

Ran test of sample PD8 mpg and it was successful

Will uninstall, reinstall and apply upgrade as next step.

Generally, with the upgrade applied at the 21% point the program disappears and leave me at the desktop. Sounds like whatever is causing the problem is applicable in both version but they handle it differently.

There was a text file error file when I click on "see what data the error report contains". The file is 185kb but this forum doesn't accept larger than 100kb, so I could include it. I could email it if necessary. Also, had to take screen prints to lowest resolution to get them small enough.

Hi Cedric,
The image - can you localise it in an image editor, into each of those warning messages ... well two of them anyway, save either as a png or a gif and that will reduce the file size quite a bit.

I want to know what video files you are attempting to render write.

I also want to know if you have attempted just to burn to a folder with your project and NOT to a disc.

I want to view your user interface - namely the media library.

Would you be up for an experiment?
Sign up to Skype and PM me your handle.
Why? With Skype you can share your desktop screen - I can see what you see and perhaps help.
Please note:
a) I can see you're on at this time of day,
b) I want to see if the skype/desktop type assistance works
c) I don't promise a solution, only suggestions

I do not offer one to one tuition at this time, this is just an experiment and it might help.

Let me know if you're up to the experiment. With Adrian's (vn800rider) assistance we have shown that a full screen view of our desktops displays even the small text. A number of senior members have also tested this particular function. Video can be shared as well.

I did put the images in adobe and save them as jpegs.

Since the amount to text you can type here is very limited. I attached a text file call Part A/D/H and listed all the content there. It includes the audio, video and image files used in the project. Can you see that attachment?

I am only burning to a folder. Not to disk.

Not sure what you mean by skype. I can send you images of user interface, assuming you mean screen print of the media library. There are 11 separate projects as indicated in my documentation, so getting them to you via this forum will be difficult.

Any sugguestions?

Cedric

Also, I should add it takes 1-2 hours to get the error message. So it isn't a quick process.

Here is an easy way for me to reproduce the error:

1. start pd8
2. new project (ctrl-n)
3. add a color board to master video track
4. set the duration of the color board: 20min
5. chapter room (f11)
6. add two new chapter mark, e.g. at 2 and 3 min
7. go to Create Disc interface
8. on Menu Preferences tab, select Template1, apply to all pages
9. Disc Preferences tab, select AVCHD disc type, DVD-4.7GB size
10. Quality: HD 1920x1080, DOlby Digital, 5.1 Channels
11. Click Burn. You get the "Final Output" window
12. Untick Burn to disc, tick Create folder
13. untick x.v.color and hardware encoding
14. click Start Burning
15. I get at 13-14% a "Burning unsuccessful. Unspecified error" message.
16. After clicking OK, I am again at "Final Output" window
