I am having the exact same issue. Flashy hourglass and all. I spoke with a tech from the JVC toll free number, and lucked out, for this guy said he had bought one of the Everios, and had the same problem. He told me that the newest version of internet explorer was conflicting with that program, and that if I would be able to roll back to IE5, then everything would work properly. He told me not to bother trying the downloadable patches on this cyberlink website unless I wanted to prepare my program with a couple more features to be initialized once I got the program working. The IE area of the microsoft site does not offer previous versions of its software, as far as I can tell. There is an old version of IE available from download.com, but I think I would rather just get a new version of the cyberlink software. Why would IE7 affect the cyberlink software? If you try the rollback option, please share the results.

I know this is an old post. This is for everyone (like me) who came here trying to troublshoot their PowerDirector 8 installation. Mine is fixed now, here's what was happening...

When attempting to start PowerDirector 8, I would get the loading splash screen for several seconds, and then an error message from Windows Vista saying that Power Director 8 had encountered an error and needed to close.

I was running:
Vista Home Premium, SP1, 32-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GHz CPU
3 gigs RAM
IE 7

Here's what I did:
* Removed all Apple components (iTunes, Mobile Device Helper, Quick Time, etc., etc.)
* Re-installed Apple iTunes (which installed the rest of Apple's crap automatically)
* Rebooted

After this, PowerDirector 8 ran with out problem.

I had the same problem with PowerDirector not starting. As mentioned in this forum, I removed all Apple products on my computer and hey presto, PowerDirector started working again.

So it would seem there is a compatibility problem between PowerDirector and Apple, perhaps something Cyberlink should be looking to address with an update.

What are the steps to start uploading video from JVC to Power Director Express5? The thumbnails do not automatically populate after making the USB connection with the JVC camera turned on, and on clicking on importing video, I get an open screen with clips from an old project. I have had success making a movie in the past but maybe forgot a step. Please respond: francese.fam@cox.net. Al Francese

Hi Al

Import the video files into your computer first before you open Power Director.

Good luck
