To anyone who's interested, any type of image can be transparent, be it Bitmap, PNG, JPG or GIF, the secret is "Chroma-Key" If there's a white background on the image(or any colour, for that matter), drop your image onto a PiP(overlay) track, click on "modify", a PiP designer window will appear, adjust the size of your image(as and if required(a grid of up to ten "squares" is available, plus TV safe zone. Options will appear in "Properties" including Chroma-Key, click on Chroma-Key, a little arrow to the left of where you "tick" will, when clicked, point down to reveal settings. Click on the eye dropper(pippet) and, in the image area, click on the colour of the background you want to "vanish", and thus it will, leaving only the arrow, pointer or any other icon you want superimposed on your video. All quite easy, really!
Cheers!

I have had occasion to look at the rotation facility in the PiP attributes, and yes, you can get greater than 360 degrees rotation. 8X360=2880 degrees rotation, the image appears to be spinning rapidly! I've used this to good effect in PD8 and it appears the same is available in PD14, so, when the need arises, I will use it. Such a rapid spin can be useful if you were to superimpose any circular image and have it appear from left f screen(rotate clockwise) or from right of screen(rotate anti-clockwise), or static in centre-screen(rotate in either direction while fading in or out).
Cheers!

Hi, Andrew_Wolan
There is, of course a natural amount of loss in a clip due to the transition as it masks out some of the previous clip and some of the next clip, in equal portions(plus creating cross-fade in the audio track). This might be what you're seeing now. Other than this explanation, I don't quite know how to answer your query. Perhaps a moderator or senior contributor may be of more help.
Cheers!

Hello, AlS!
I don't think I'll worry about it. The Windows 10 icon at the botom-righ on my screen my well disappear of its on accord eventually anyway!

Hi, Mike!
I'm yet to burn a disc using PD14 but will get there eventually when I've got enough material together to warrant a disc burn. Then I'll be able to evaluate the process for myself.

Hi, CS!
Yep, I'm fully aware of how trimming the frames works, whichever frame rate is used, the same idea still applies, trim out spare frames, counting back to the exact point of so many minutes and seconds exactly. I've been editing my sids this way for some time now.

Hi, Carl!
As it happens, I found the DVD SP setting by chance. I have to say, clips rendered from Hi-Def content like AVCHD or MP4, actually scrub up quite well when rendered to DVD SP. Using DVD SP I'm able to squeeze two hours onto a standard 4.7 Gb DVD(single layer). I don't use dual-layer discs for anything other than file storage as the last time I tried to burn a dual-layer DVD, only the computer would play it(yes, it had been "finalised"), domestic DVD players will quite readily accept and play commercially-made dual-layer discs)My Harry Potter movie collection proves that), but they "spit the dummy" on home-burn dual-layer discs. So, for that reason, I keep it simple... DVD SP, burn to single-layer and fit 2 hours + onto one disc.
Cheers!

Hi, Carl.
PD8 will come in useful at times, so I'm glad I was able to retain it. There are some features of PD8 that will compliment PD14, and vice-versa. One question though, In PD14 Ultra, which is the best MPEG setting to replicate DVD SP?
Cheers!

Hi, CS!
One or two things I would've liked carried over from PD8 is the ability to copy/paste transitions. In PD7 then PD8, I could use the fade transition, set it to say, 5 seconds, copy and paste it the each spot where transitions were required, once in place, I could then go along and substitute a more elaborate transition effect, effectively using the "fade" as a seat-warmer for the more elaborate effect.
Snipping the clips is another trick I'm going to have to learn to do differently, though the new process allows me to trim more closely than was previously possible. I like to trim clips right back to exact minute/second times by deleting "spare" frames. I can now trim back to within one frame where previously the closest I could get was 3 frames(e.g., if a clip ran 3 min, 2 secs and 2 frames, I had to cut back a whole second plus the two frames, whereas now I can just chop off the two unwanted frames). The other thing is, having to save titles as:....., I'd rather be able to simply use them once without having to save them. I guess I'll learn a way around that in time. It's going to be a bit of a learning curve, that's for sure, but I'm up and running, that's the main thing.
Cheers!

Hi, everyone!
Got PD14 Ultra today and installed it! Half-expected it to say "there's an earlier version, please uninstall first(or words to that effect) but no, Installation of PD14 Ultra carried on as if PD8 wasn't even there! The icons I have are(top to bottom) the basic launching icon for PD14 Ultra, then the screen recorder icon, then the wave editor icon.
Now I'll have to hang an "L-plate" around my neck as I learn to drive this new beast! But anyhow, the question has now been answered "Yes" As both PD8 and PD14(Both Ultras) are side-by-side on my computer.
Cheers!

Hi, all!
I just got Power Director today and installed same(PD14 Ultra), had a job getting the product key right, even after several attempts and double-, triple- and even quadruple-checking, told me the key was still invalid but opened up to give the registration box, which I duly filled out and successfully lodged. Hoping all is fine. Still have Disc 2's contents to load in yet. Will do that momentarily.
Just opened briefly, product has been activated! ALL SYSTEMS GO!
Cheers!

Hi, Melvin!
By saying "The CDKEY was located on the installation disk", do you mean it was printed on the sleeve in which the disc was held, or was it in a sort-of "read-me" file? I'm yet to take delivery of PD14 Ultra and would like to know this myselfso I know what to watch for when I do get my installation package. In previous versions, the CDKey was printed on the sleeve which held the disc, typing it into the relevant place when you first open the programme after installation would then "activate" the programme and render it permanent, but I've heard some say the CDkey has to be downloaded from Cyberlink. This is what I'm trying to ascertain for myself, so that I may have a trouble-free installation. Like you, I don't want to be stuck with just a "trial" version.
Cheers!

Melvin, did you get a "CDKey" number?(assuming you were using an installation disc to install PD14). Anyone else able to offer advice here, please hop in.

Hi, Will_S!
Likely you have a little Windows icon sitting at bottom-right of your screen, near your clock, and when you move your curser to it, it says "Get Windows 10"? Yep, same here! Been on my computer for past few months(appeared somtime during June, I think). You can't miss it... It sits there, trying to tempt you in...... "C'mon! Install me! You know you want to.....!" To which I say to Microsoft: "Thanks but no thanks! I'm perfectly happy with Windows 7!"
Cheers!

Tony(Ynotfish),
That's fairly similar to what I suggested, save again in same audio format but under altered title. Great minds thinking alike, ay?
Cheers!

Julien,
Re: your question: "Why are you ordering from a retail store when you could have ordered it online and downloaded the software instantly?"
My answer there is a)because I much prefer to deal "in person" with actual "bricks and mortar" store staff, as against the impersonal internet, which is slowly but surely usurping the role of such stores, and b) because I want the actual physical installation disc, in its own package, which I can use to install PD14 Ultra onto a replacement computer, if and when required.
And to your comment: "Anyway, I would really suggest discussing your upgrade woes somewhere else, this thread is about a Newblue titler problem." I was responding to a question about my upgrade situation, and, in my post of 14/10/2015 04:51:39(I assume, PM rather than AM), I'd dealt with transitions, Newblue verses regular transitions.
Thanks for asking!
Neil.

Barry The Crab asked: "Since when would one want to reduce the resolution from 1920x1080 back to HD 1280 x 720 when the original video clip is HD 1920x1080??"
Quite simple really, Barry!
If all you have is a DVD rewrite drive, you have to taylor your videos to suit that medium if they're going to be played on domestic DVD players.
Blu-Ray, for all its extra capacity and image quality, is still at a price outside some people's limits, and still has some limitations, so it's a matter of "making do with what you've got"!
Cheers!

Hi, Julien!
Re: your remark that I should be upgrading, I had bought and paid for Power Director Ultra. I got a call today from the store where I bought it, saying they had it ready to collect but when I got to the store, I saw they'd inadvertently ordered Power DVD 14(playback only software, when I specifically said Power Director 14 Ultra. They made the correction in-store and I now wait another week for delivery of the product which will now cost me Aust.$129.00 I paid an extra 10 bucks toward it to add to the Aust.$199.96(got 95 cents change(prices in Australia are rounded out to the nearest 5 cents as we did away with ic and 2c pieces[copper coins] some years ago). So now I await PD14 Ultra. And I should, with any luck, have it by either the end of this working week(Friday, 23rd October) or next Monday(26th October).
Cheers! Neil.

Hi, will_s!
Here we go agai, folks! Windows 10 is the culprit again! You've sorted your programme problems by going back from W10 to W8, will_s! This just proves it more and more conclusively that I'm right in staying with Windows 7. Seems Microsoft has "laid an egg" with W10... and the yoke's on them! Ha-ha!
Cheers!

Hi, TexasTrouble!
I've seen this before on another unrelated website, little boxed 'X's where the image or icon should be. If that sample yo provided is coming via the "net" and not present on your own computer, might be a server problem.
Cheers, Y'all!(ha-ha - no malice intended there!)

Hi, RonFromFields!
Another trick could be to resave the audio as MP3 but under an amended title. The new MP3 file will be the same content but will effectively be a different file altogether as far as the computer "sees" it. The new, amended-title file should then import to PD14 without too may problems. It'd be like Carl312 wearing a "Ronald Reagan" mask(sorry, Carl!), same item - but "disguised" as something else.
Cheers!
Neil.
