Hi Anja!
Funny how you say EU copyright laws are strict. I have some German-issue 45s and LPs, and on some of them is the bracketted portion of the German-language copyright warning re: copying to tape(Unerlaubte vervielfältigung = unallowed duplication) The bracketted portion reads "Ausser zum persönlichen Gebrauch" which translates in English as "Except for personal use". Mind you, this didn't appear on ALL Germal-issue records even from issue to issue on the same label, but I've seen it enough to know that the record companies were quitehappy for us to record our favourite songs onto a cassette, for our own use, of course! That was nice of them, wasn't it? As for music in our videos, if YouTube are going to kick up a stink any time someone submits a video where the camera picks up some background music coming of someone's radio, purely unintended, as it was, then it's not worth putting anything on YouTube at all.
Cheers!

Hi, Tomasc!
What's happened here it that I've taken some old VHS content(which was dubbed to VHS from Video-8 and Hi-8 camera tape*) and, after capture to hard-drive through PD8 Ultra, I then set about using the CLPV system to convert the material from 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio. After tidying up and adding titles in PD14 Ultra to this material(four items ranging in length from a little over 5 minutes, up to over half-an-hour), the total playing time for the DVD would've been just a smidgin over 1 hour, 40 minutes! Having installed PD14 Ultra, it's only natural that I'd want to burn a disc using this new software. But when I went to the setting for DVD HQ or DVD SP, there was no SP option, only HQ or "Smart Fit". As I said, it was just as well I retained PD8 Ultra as I was able to do there, what I could not do in PD14 Ultra.... burn a DVD in the SP mode. Is there a provision for default settings which will give me that DVD SP option in PD14 Ultra so that I can burn 16:9 AR video at DVD SP in future?
*It's surprising how well Hi-8 and Video-8 camera tapes reproduce when dubbed to VHS. The resultant tape content lends itself very well to being "captured" for making DVDs with no real loss of picture quality, but dub an original VHS to another VHS and you get a near-ugly mess of a picture when you try to "capture" the video for a DVD.
Cheers!

When I got PD8, it was passed on to me from a previous user WITHOUT a request for monetary transaction(given, rather than sold to me, in other words), but it did come with the suggestion to add the latest "build"(update) and not to register the software. That I did. But when I came to acquire PD14 Ultra, I DID register it but, to date have not updated the version(used any patches, as, for the most part, PD14 works fine without them) My only disappointment with PD14 Ultra is not being able to burn to DVD in DVD SP setting(see my comments in "Suggestions For Power Director 15" in the Power Director 14 forum).
Cheers!

A suggestion for Power Director 15......? Allow burning at DVD SP!
I was about to try out PD14 Ultra for my first DVD authoring attempt(burn to disc, in other words) but the only settings available were either HQ or "Smart Fit"... Sorry, but that just doesn't "cut it" with me. Just as well I kept PD8 Ultra.
I like to pack as much content as possible onto a DVD. I strive to put at minimum, 90 minutes, but, if I can, I like to put upwards of 2 hours worth of content on a disc. In PD8, that's a "walk in the park", no problem at all! But in PD14 I hit the proverbial "brick wall" as I cannot select DVD SP as the specification for disc burning. Am I missing something here? Is there a setting I can make that will allow me to burn DVD SP through PD14 Ultra? Until that question is answered, PD14 Ultra will be used solely for capture and/or edit work, occasionally sprucing up old VHS content(AR conversion, image clean-up and suchlike) but authoring to disc will be strictly the preserve of PD8 Ultra!
Cheers!

Hi Tony & Anja!
It's for this very reason that I DON'T upload my videos to YouTube! I much prefer to put them on DVD for private viewing by family & friends. I have limited access to the SmartSound library and may occasionally use some of what's available but often I'll use commercial material and keep the video strictly private. If YouTube are jumping up and down about music copyright on SmartSound stuff, then it's just not worth all the grief!

The Page Curl, Fold, and Roll transitions should be made to open the opposite way from right to left as western books and asian books and documents all open that way. See this link: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/46235.page . Those books in Theme designer also need to be changed for those users who do not have competitor's software created in western or european countries. In modern day Taiwan school books open right to left.
That's already available(regarding the Page Roll/Fold/Curl transitions) in PD14. I used these recently when editing some old material for a friend after using CLPV to convert from 4:3 to 16:9 Aspect Ratio. When you apply the transitions and set the time length for them, click on modify, Under the option for Overlap transition, you'll see the option for Direction. Click there to tell the transition to go left or right.

Had to edit - Keyboard Gremlins, you see! "Tell" ended up as "Thell" but has been corrected... Curse those Keyboard Gremlins!

Hi, Elijah 1901!
Considering you're still experiencing difficulties in burning to DVD, then my last "throw of the dice" would be that maybe your computer has some hardware issues, or that your internal hard-drive may be a bit crowded with other files(Word Documents, MP3 Audio, other video content..... etc.). If you have a good-size external hard drive, cut and paste the larger-size files off your internal drive and onto your external drive, then give your internal drive a defrag. That might help. If not, take your computer to your service agent, he/she may be able to rectify your problem.
Cheers!

Yes, it would. But then YouTube has its own background music solution. It's just that you can't have any commentary.
Why can't you have any commentary? If you're recording your own narration(as you shoot the video, or afterwards when you're editing) then on-one has a right to tell you that you can't have your own commentary! That's being extremely dictatorial!
Cheers.

Hello, Elijah 1901
If you're burning to DVD so as to be played on a domestic DVD player, you need to ensure you're burning an MPEG2 file. As I suspect, you might be trying to burn an uncompressed AVI file and they can gobble up the gigabytes like King Henry VIII devours meat! Before you burn your video to DVD, check that it's an MPEG2 file, either DVD HQ or DVD SP(SP allows more content on a disc) and you should be okay after that.
Cheers!

Tony, you're a real crack-up!
But could you turn your post around so we can read it, pleeeeaaaasssseeee????

Hello, MarkZwijsen!
Judging from comments by Carl312 and Tomasc, the problem may not be with your editing software or your DVD player, rather it seems the problem rests within your TV set itself. If you have a maintenance arrangement with a TV tech support firm, maybe they can make the suitable adjustments to your set so as to show "the picture, the whole picture and nothin' but the picture"(ha-ha).
Cheers!

Hello, Mark!
When you render your video after editing, set the render quality to MPEG2, DVD SP or(if you want higher quality image and are prepared to sacrifice disc capacity) DVD HQ. This should ensure your image is displayed properly on your TV screen when you've burned it to disc.
Cheers!

Hi, idylldon!
Glad you've sorted your cropping problem. I said what I said about activation as a precaution as some who may be very new to the world of video editing may not be fully aware of what is involved in the installation of software for such purpose, probably because they're also new to computers and are "feeling their way" along, learning as they go, so-to-speak. And, with new software, the learning starts again when you familiarise yourself with all the new "tricks" you can do on the new software. Like me, for instance, so used to doing things a certain way with PD8, only to have to learn to do those same things differently in PD14. It's a learning curve that's thankfully not too steep!
Cheers!

Hi, idylldon !
If you've just installed PD14, the question is: Have you activated it by typing in the CDKey(Product Key) and followed the processes thereafter to activate your software? If not, then you'll have only a trial version, set to expire 30 days after installation, and a number of features will not be available until such time as the activation process is completed. Trial version behave in a way similar to the knock-down bare-bones versions you get with those VHS-to-DVD kits. No product key is needed there but, to keep costs down, several of the "bells & whistles" features will not operate. That's why it's best to get the full version, and activate as soon as you've installed it.
Cheers!

Hi, andries1976
CLD has given you the answer you need. Cheers, CLD! As I stated, the product key is unique to eack copy of Power Director, whichever version you purchase, be it as a download or as a physical disc(the way I much prefer to have them), and the key for onde copy of PD7(for example) will not activate another copy of same.
Cheers for now and good luck in procuring your new copy of PD7. A tip though, burn it to DVD when you do get it and print the key on the label so as to have a back-up copy.

To all concerned!
This situation with using music in video is getting very much out of hand, ay, what? Optodata's example: I remember a video being taken down because I was recording the Hollywood sign with a slow pan and a car parked next to me had the radio on and YouTube complained I was illegally broadcasting copyrighted material is case in point. If you're out shooting video of anything and someone comes passing by with a very loud radio or one of those old 1980s "ghetto-blaster" stereos(remember them?) and your camera's microphone just happens to pick up the sound, purely by chance, of course, some legal-eagle will jump all over it and say that because that song's on the soundtrack of your video, you owe ASCAP, BMI, SESAC(in the USA) or CAPAC(in Canada) or NCB(in Britain) or even APRA(down here in Australia), X-amount of dollars/pounds/whatever currency applies elsewhere, regardless of how, or how much of that song came to be on your video, if you upload to YouTube, that is! Hmmmm.... A leagal minefield awaits!
Er, ah, cheers(?)

Hi, Parmy!
I was about to suggest that Tony(Ynotfish) had the possible answer you were looking for, but by now you'll have already seen and read same. Hope Tony's suggestion has helped, and if so, all credit due to Tony.
As for me, after viewing the clips about tracing the bag, it has given me an idea or two to try out. now all I need is a suitable clip on which to try it them out.
Cheers!

I don't think you can use the same "product key" with a different copy of PD7. The product keys are unique to each copy as they come off the production line at Cyberlink. I have my old PD7 but it's key will be different to that of yours. Didn't you get the disc? I installed PD5, then 7, then 8 and finally 14, each, in turn from the actual physical installation disc(the only way to fly! At least it is, for me anyway) and the product... or CD Key is printed on the sleeve which holds the disc.
Cheers.

Hello, dr78061
In fix/enhance you'll find a number of options(and between PD13 and PD14 they should be much the same), they are, in order from top down: In "Fix" you have Lighting Adjustment, Lense Correction, Video Stabiliser, Video Denoiser, Audio Denoiser, then below that you have, in "Enhance" Video Enhancement, Colour Adjustment(much more though, than just colour, sharpness, brightness, contrast and many more adjustments that can be "tweaked" to get your wanted result) and White Balance. Just tick the box next to the wanted function and it will open to give you the necessary effect you're after.
Hope that's of some help.
Cheers!

Hi All!
I have my own solution:
1) Use "Smartsound" music in clips that will remain private, i.e., burned to disc media or copied to SD card or flash drive(Americans call them "thumb" drives) that will only be viewed by family and friends,
2) use commercial music, again they stay private though more strictly so than with "Smartsound"
3) upload to youTube and use no music at all.
Hope that might settle things.
Cheers!

Tony(Ynotfish),
Yeah, you've given me a few ideas to try out sometime soon, Thanks muchly!
and Parmy,
when setting the tracker box, narrow it in closer on the subject. The tracker should work better but you might have to experiment a bit with the keyframes. Ynotfish's vids may give some clues in that direction.
Cheers!
