Having only been a PD16 user since last December what is the likelihood of further updates and bug cures for PD16 in the light of the release of PD17?
Does it continue to be worthwhile reporting issues to CL or are they just going to say - not interested - or, get PD17 that cures your problem?
I - like many others - do not see any reason for upgrading to PD17 (especially as it would cost me some 40% more than the original did last December) as the enhancements have virtaully no appeal to me - so do we have to live with the faults in PD16 while we await what might be a better deal in PD18?
Just curious and welcome comments from users whose relationship with the PD series goes way back further than mine does.

I just saw that PD17 was released. I can't upgrade now but should I upgrade soon or just stick with 16?
Thanks
I have decided to stick with 16. I like 16 and it works well for me. I have no need for more fancy features that serve only to detract from the content.
Content is king as far as I am concerned - and tons of special effects transitions title creators 360 4K et al are at present of no use at all. PD16 works well - no teething problems and its free for me - foreever!

Ok - thanks all for your inputs - must have dreamt it or confused with different software
but thanks anyway it at least clarifies my questions.

I seem to be looking (by habit) for something I cannot see.
I seem convinced that the filename of a clip on the timeline used to show the extension as well, but its not there!
Am I wrong? Was it there? Have I inadvertently turned it off? Can it be displayed? Have CL removed it recently?
I cannot think of any other reason I am missing it - I seem to think it used to be there. I know I can view Properties to see it, and its displayed in the Library but its not always clear which thumbnail is a jpg or mp4 or mts.
All help appreciated.
Thanks
Alan.

Hi Alan
If you use the "Motion" slideshow you can set each individual duration. Once Motion is selected, on the next screen is "customize" here you can change durations as you want.
Robert
Wow - I use PD16 quite a bit but for a fairly limited range of operations which it does very well at. Tend to spend more time getting good shots rather than playing with the end result. You guessed it - I never even know you could do what you just suggested - absolutely mind blowing level of manipulative control. Thank you.
I did before your reply work out that I get quite a nice result using the transition rooms functions of inserting transitions between all the photos with a degree of control - like totally random - selections based on your favourites - or plain fade. But the photo duration is under total control - even having individual durations should you desire.
But thanks for your input - thats a whole new world out there to explore when time permits - this project was necessarily brief for speed.

Is it possible to set the duration of each image in a slideshow? Via Tools I set image default length to be 2 seconds, drag all imported images to timeline, and they default to 2s good. Make a slideshow of the lot, using style "normal" finish creating one clip of the whole lot - image duration now approx 3-4 seconds.
No changes to image duration or transition length seems to have any effect on the resultant video length and image duration.
This is either a bug / shortcoming / or I'm missing something
Please help
Alan.

Oh - thank you Hatti - I was having trouble getting my head around exactly what was happening, but your explanation precisely describes a situation I have never actually been in nor could even comprehend. But at least there's a workaround (another!) for the meantime.
Maybe one day we'll get an upgrade that will specifically sort all the workarounds instead of adding new bells and whistles of dubious benefit or desire (I wonder why AI came to mind???? )

Hi Alan, I'm using PD16
Strange - for me, like Hatti all works as expected - scratching head

I'm able to remove all clip markers from the clip marker timeline, but right-clicking it and choosing to have it removed from the timeline is not working. Does anyone have a workaround for this problem? It turns yellow when you select it, and the option to remove it is active (not greyed out) but when you click to have it removed it just changes back to the active blue marker and doesn't get removed.
Are you running PD16? or an earlier version?

Just received an email from Cyberlink proudly announcing a Sale and going on to boast More Ways To Enrich Your Digital Life - by getting PowerDirector 15 (yes 15) thats faster smoother and has more editing features. I also see on this forum on May 31 2018 a new patch has been released for PD15.
Call me old fashioned but I thought when I purchased PD16 I WAS getting a faster smoother and more featured video editor than PD15 but on the surface one could be forgiven for thinking maybe PD15 was better than PD16. I know some users have been disappointed with so called improvements in PD16 that failed to address issues in PD15.
Yes I checked my calendar and its not 1st April either. (UK April fools day)
So whats going on? Should I upgrade to PD15 - but seriously - why is PD15 being updated when surely CL should be concentrating on their current PD flagship v16?

Just having a play with motion tracker (PD16) and wanted it to move an object off the screen limits - can't think of a way of achieving this - can anyone else?
I momentarily considered manually manipulating the last 20 points by hand - but gave up equally as momentarily.
I just hope there is a neater way.

Having been bugged with the missing waveform on audio for some while it was with great pleasure I saw the latest release for PD16 (16.0.2816.0) cured this issue. Great.
NOT
Happily progressing my latest project, then all of a sudden no waveforms. Only applied to audio added today - all yesterdays audio additions still displayed waveforms correctly. Puzzled.
Doubleclick an audio clip and you get to Trim Audio that just sat there saying Analysing Waveform for display - and nothing happened - despite a long wait.
None of my old tricks restored the waveform - it was gone for good and firmly resisted all attempts to restore.
Frustrated - and in desperation - I uninstalled PD16.
Installed PD16 and the the 3 updates and eventually back to square one.
Loaded project I am working on - and behold - all waveform displays are showing correct, both yesterdays contributions and todays.
So Cyberlink - please examine what you did for the latest release - its not reliable - just yet!!!
I cannot afford the time to reinstall everything - everytime the waveforms disappear. I have no idea what I did (if anything significant) that killed the waveforms - but I've simply reinstalled everything to get them back.

First question: Does PD support anything that is similar to Twixtor?
Second: Are boris or newblue fx worth getting? They are pretty pricey but don't know what they offer. Has anyone tried them? I would like to know.
Thanks
1. not that I am aware of, and even twixtor is not perfect its a compromise. If superb slo-mo was important going down a hardware route would be necessary. There are plenty of sub £1000 cameras that can produce respectable slo-mo with none of the twixtor limitations.
2. NewBlue is impressive even at Titler Pro 1.5 level given free with PD. I have looked casually at the latest incarnation v6 and I guess its impressive but at $300 or more I have to ask - what am I making? Impressive titles and credits with mediocre content seperating the two, or am I trying to create entertaining video people enjoy watching, with adequate titling to accompany?
Quality content, skillfully edited and interesting is what I strive to make - titles credits and visually effects will always be second.
Just my opinion.

My opinion: That is the worst crap ever!
Your sample was very good to see the plugin, but I just noticed, that this plugin kills the best clip into a blue skinned piece of whats-o-ever (the only effect without turning the skin into blue is "Vincent's bedroom" by Van Gogh).
And Cyberlink wants to have ~150 eurobucks for every style! Oh my very happy god of joy!
I think, Cyberlink should have put their power in some features, that the main programs are missing, not in that 'peeeeep' (<- sounded out, sorry).
Hatti
100% agree with you Hatti - there's so much more CL could have invested in to make the program easier faster and better to use than clog the works with useless trivial gimmicks.

This may just be a red herring but a common denominator across systems and PD versions might be the text you have installed on your system. I am no expert but (assuming your running Windows something) I have had issues where sometimes a program does not see text (installed) that others do.
Right now I see fonts in PD16 that do not appear to be installed on my PC - maybe there might be some pecularity in your installed fonts that gives PD some issues. Do you use fonts in any other programs you run?
Maybe this is all supposition - but I still think it has to be something common between old/new system and old/new PD and that is (could be/ possibly / maybe) installed fonts.

What a shame - bet v6 can do it - but at $299 I would expect the earth - and probably get it!
Thanks for your inputs - at least I know I'm not missing something.
Even 1.5 is impressive - and I must not get carried away developing fancy titles at the expense of overshadowing the video content.
Thank you both.

Does anyone know if its possible to control and alter the point of rotation - by default it is the centre of the object within each plane?
Titler Pro 6 is not an acceptable answer

Alan,
It would be nice if the next iteration of PD usses a newer version of Titler Pro and that this might avoid the anomaly.
Jim
Hear hear - I looked into buying a more up to date version and they only seem to do v6 now - and depending upon variant they are between $299 and $499 - has a much more professional looking GUI though - but for bells and whistles way beyound my understanding or even need - its not for me.

I tried to replicate your scenario. If I understand correctly, you have a regular title on track1. And then a Titler Pro title replaces it in your second example. Then on track 2 you have video that begins two seconds later and has a one second fade-in. So the effect is that the video obscures the title rather than the title fading out.
When I inserted a new track as track 1 and put a color board on it, and moved each of the other tracks down without changing the order, the effect was the same with the regular title and the Titler Pro title. The difference went away.
It must have something to do with how Titler Pro manages the background when it's not resting on top of another layer that contains content.
-Jim
It is almost definately your last point - although I cannot see why TitlerPro influences the effect of the track above (visually) it (the fade bit) and yet the influence of the track above it is correct on titlerpro image. Seems like an error influence, but a simple solution overcomes this oddity, so I guess it gets left like that until someone encounters a similar interraction that can't be so easily overcome.
Thanks for your input.

In PD16 I have a puzzle...
On track 1 I have an ordinary piece of text of say 5 seconds. On track 2 I have a 5s video clip starting at 2s and it has a fade in of 1 second. The idea being that as the video fades in it progressively obscures the text on track 1. All works just as you would expect.
Now I change the simple text for a NewBlue Titler Pro 1.5 piece of animated text, just to look nicer. In the same place and everything overlapping as before, the TitlerPro piece of text seems to affect the video fade in, like it does not fade any more, it just starts immediately at full opacity. The gradual obscuration of the text remains as the fade in slope dictates, but rather than the video fading in like it should it starts immediately.
Is this a bug or is it me missing something?
Yes I appreciate I could achieve a similar output if I put the TitlerPro piece on a higher track and then made it fade itself like I want, but its the discovery of the anomoly that sparks my curiosity, any thoughts?

If you have 2 monitors the full scrren preview on the 2nd monitor works as expected, the video controls only reappear when the mouse moves on to the second monitor. I realise this may just frustrate if you do not have a second monitor so I tried the following on just one monitor.
Click to undock the preview screen, click to view full screen, and wait for the controls to disappear (about 2 seconds) then you can stop/start playback using the Space bar, you can frame step back and forward using the , and . keys (no shift needed) go to front of project using Home key and end of project using the End key, and all of this does not cause the control panel to reappear. When you want the control panel back - you already know how to do that!
