Sorry Bob - It's a common utility used on the form to display file codec, bitrate and other info. Can you supply that info to compare the MP4 vs M2TS files.

Jeff - You have put enough time and effort into testing and resolving issues with GPUs to publish a thesis - and we appreciate it.
Based on what you've found what hardware would you recommend for 4k editing in PD? Is there any performance improvement for 4k in PDR15 to justify the upgrade?
Thanks,
Al

So, the cineform idea didn't work well for me. The new hard drives work great though. I bought 2 4tb western digital red drives and installed them into my desktop via windows storage spaces in a 2 way mirror. It works great. Eventually I will get an ssd drive for my boot/applications drive which will speed things up.
To get over the laggy preview problem, I just use shadow files. I start them before I go to bed and when I get up in the morning they are all created. I guess thats the easiest way. Thanks for everyones help.
Just a thought. You shouldn't have a space problem with your additional drives. I'm editing 4k with a core i5 and Magic+PD. It's an additional step but runs smoothly. Maybe give it a try - could be a minor inconvience compared to a new PC and Vegas cost. Not sure Vegas will be much better with your hardware. If you test it please let us know results.

Hi Nick
If you're shooting RAW 4k you're out of my league.
Just a thought - LRT and Lightworks are powerful professional software. MP4 is highly compressed and not the best format for editing.
If you can output from Adobe Lightworks to a less compressed lossless intermediate codec like Cineform AVI and then import into PD you may have better results. PD will import and edit Cineform files on the timeline as long as you have the codec installed on your PC.

Hi Bob,
I'm struggling to see the difference at 720p on Youtube.
I have noticed a quality problem on some H.264 MP4 files.
Can you send MediaInfo on both please?

Hi Grumpy - I've only downloaded the latest codec version. Haven't tested yet as I'm not editing 4k at the moment.
MagicYUV_v1.2_win-rev1
I got an email from Balázs notifying me of the update.

Thank Neil,
My PDR14 is stable and I'm waiting to hear more feedback from users who have upgraded. Wondering if 4k editing is any better and if render speed improved. I agree - very disappointed suggestions not implemented. If you want the best PDR15 price wait until a month before PDR16 is launched!

Re: "I had poised a very similar thread here: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/49452.page#259960 as many forum contributors continually bashed a i5 for being week but it's really not the case. Some are, some are not, really depends on what CPU you purchase. PD CPU encode performance really just a function of CPU capability, be it AMD or Intel. "
I've been considering upgrading my i5 4690 which I've had since I started with PDR12. I've added an SSD, 16gb ram, and moved to Win 10. Most of my editing is HD and I use Magic+PD for 4k realtime editing. No GPU card only Intel Graphics.
Works fine for me. Smooth editing and reasonable render times. More power won't improve the hours I spend editing. Not too worried about render times - gives me a chance to take a break.
Would love to have latest top end i7 and GPU because I love toys but have decided to spend the bucks on latest DJI Mavic Pro 4k drone!!

For those using Magic+PD in PDR14 or 15 please note the MagicYUV codec has been updated and improved.
"MagicYUV Lossless Video Codec - updated!MagicYUV Lossless video codec update! Version 1.2-rev1 for Windows has been released. It provides a workaround for inefficient AVI writing by certain apps (most notably Dxtory, the relevant forum topic is here: http://forum.exkode.com/index.php?topic=2165 ), so you should see better disk performance there. It also has some minor tweaks which should help with smart-rendering in editor programs. The release is yours for free! P.S.: If you experience any bugs, crashes make sure to send me a bugreport. Thanks!"
Thanks to Balázs Oroszi who developed the codec.

Thanks Grumpy!! So latest drivers work OK on newer cards. I've been holding back on a new GPU because of PDR suport problems.

Hi Sonic - At one stage PDR14 needed an older nVidia GPU driver - didn't support the current version. Has it changed in PDR15?
Thanks

Dahlilama - Thanks - I want a Phantom 4!
Back to quality. After you fixed the progressive problem, have you done a comparison of output quality from PDR15 vs GoPro Studio using same clips, bitrate etc??
GP Studio still produces better 1080p output quality visually for me and I'm not sure why.
Compare MediaInfo on both output H.264 MP4 output files.

Latest drivers supported yet??

Here is another intro video from Cyberlink
http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/product/html/28546/Ultra/features.jsp#
I got an email from Malek - otherwise I would have never known 15 was out. 360 is impressive but I don't use it.
I wonder if it handles UHD/4k any better? etc. etc.
Would be nice if they acknowledged our efforts and gave us a list of improvements added from this Forum PDR15 Wishlist.
I'm more concerned about stability, output quality and preformance than more new features.

It's here
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultra/features_en_US.html
Ultimate upgrade $84.99
When do we get a new Forum?
Hope they don't dump us into "Previous Versions"
I'm sure we would all like to know what's new and improvements added as per "Suggestions for PDR 15" which has had almost 18k views.
Is it a new render engine?
Can we start a new thread?
I expected a big announcement. Haven't even had an email so far.

PepsiMan - GIGOTS!!! Definitely - but I'm striving toward less "GIGO" and more "TS"!
jamesd1981 -Is H.265 worth using?
No - It's not compatible with most media devices currently in use.
Yes - We may need it soon.
According to tech reviews, H.265 (HEVC) introduced in 2013 is coming soon for the following reasons:
POSITIVES
It is far more efficient.
H.264 is a great compression standard for a number of reasons. It provides very good quality at relatively low bitrates, and its widespread use means it’s supported by essentially every video playback device made in the past five to ten years.
Typically, a H.265 encoded file is less than half the size than H.264 at the same viewing quality. Not so important on your PC as disk space gets cheaper, but according to Cisco, 80-90% of internet usage will soon (2017) be video viewing and 4k is here so better compression is a must.
Here is why H.265 is better and how it works
HEVC / H.265 Explained
2. Any computer can decode H.265 using software (in theory, at least). All that’s mandatory is software capable of handling H.265 and a file or stream encoded in it. Support is native to PCs with the release of Windows 10.
Hardware decoding is obviously more efficient.
In the world of OTT playback, we are starting to see HEVC decoding capabilities built into smart TVs. Everyone from Samsung to LG to Sony wants to maximize UHD content over the internet, and 4K resolution produces much larger file sizes than does 1080p. Any codec that can retain quality while reducing overall bitrate is going to keep the owner of a 4K TV happily viewing Netflix or Amazon content with greatly reduced risk of buffering or stalled playback.
NEGATIVES
The biggest for us is that H.265 encoding takes up to ten times more compute power than H.264.
So for anyone not using H.265 now but considering a PC upgrade you should ensure you will have H.265 hardware encoding and decoding for the not too distant future.
Here is my short hardware list:
Intel 6th-generation ‘Skylake’ Core processors or newer
AMD 6th-generation ‘Carizzo’ APUs or newer
AMD ‘Fiji’ GPUs (Radeon R9 Fury/Fury X/Nano) or newer
Nvidia GM206 GPUs (GeForce GTX 960/950) or newer
Other Nvidia GeForce GTX 900 series GPUs have partial HEVC hardware decoding support

Thanks Jeff, Sonic & PepsiMan
Im not a H.265 fan yet but I think we will move toward H.265 as 4k grows in popularity.
I would like to see a PDR14 comparison using Skylake Ver 5 Quick-Sync vs GTX 9xx & 10xx GPUs - which are significantly more expensive. GTXs should win but is the "bang for the buck" worth it?
PepsiMan - Will Kabylake have the same Intel GPU as Skylake or a new version? Apparently the new Skylake-S processors (Q4 2016) will have "Gen9" GT4/e GPU 72 EUs. Not sure what all this means for H.265.

Thanks Tony/tomasc
I found the problems in the timeline.
It was at the beginning of Title clips (not all -only a few).
I tried to Modify and Save them in PDR14 but that failed.
I eventually deleted and re-created each one until I had a smooth timeline playback.
Saved the project with PDR14.
Closed the program and re-started PDR14.
Loaded the packed project - all OK now.
Gremlins!

Thanks tomasc -
I missed that post but this is a major concern.
I thought the safest way to save a project for future use is in a folder which contains all of the original files plus what is commonly known as the EDL (edit decision list). I can also save space by deleting the original files and folders from various locations including unused stuff.
This project is months of work and I wanted to update it with some new clips.
It appears Cyberlink is aware of this problem.
They sell us upgrades with no warnings and expect us to find out by losing years of work due to an upgrade they sold us?
This should be a forum STICKY with a warning to all users before they upgrade - and another Warning in the upgrade offers before you buy.
New versions should be able to recognise saved projects from previous versions, convert them on import, and request users to save again in the new format. Instead they allow the new version to destroy our projects without warning. This is gross negligence.

I have a PDR13 saved as a packed project.
When loading into PDR14 I get 23 Cannot Load fix.png errors. (See attached LoadErr img)
Once the project loads all video, pics and sound files are there.
When I playback the timeline I get a "Media Source Error", Error Type = Video Cut, Material Type = Template (See PlayErr img attached). I click "Save As" on error popup and get a meaningless (to me) report (See ErrorLog.txt attached). It's hard to isolate the clip as it jumps back to start of timeline as soon as error is displayed.
It's a large 1hr HD project.
Thanks - Al
