I am making a blu ray disc 25GB, is it possible to burn to folder only without burning to disc?
I wish to check for any rendering faults BEFORE committing to disc burning, which brings me to my second question, can Power Director 12 burn a folder to disc or would I have to use a programme such as Cyberlink Power2go?
|
|
The actual size of the disc after burning was 37GB, so the estimate was 6GB out, that's way wide of the mark!
|
|
Before burning a disc I have been given the information in screen print below, I take it this is fairly inaccurate because I am going to burn a Bluray disc which is 46GB, this is the actual size of 50GB discs so is my project likely to fit onto the disc?

Is it possible to have two audio tracks on the same bluray disc, for example on a music compilation disc which when burnt is to be copied and played on various systems I would like there to be a choice of either surround sound or stereo depending on what playback equipment is available.

Have to reduce the frame size to make it look better.
A blu ray player should up-scale the picture to fit the screen, you shouldn't have to change the original aspect ratio or video properties, for example if you shot in 4:3 720x480 then that's what should be put onto blu ray.

Corrupt menus being uploaded onto Directorzone is a problem, this one works perfectly (Screenshot), chapters, proper spacing between buttons (text) and no silly background audio.
Choose your menus very carefully or you're in trouble from the word go.
There are over 170 titles on this menu (selecting 99 chapters) and the bluray lasts for over 9.5 hours, the menu selected was the key, burning during tomorrow which will probably take 6+ hours.

Thanks Carl, I thought a bluray disc would be more, alas 99 is the maximum.
Is there a way of getting rid of the annoying 'My Videos' in the menu editing section? I can't seem to shift it.

A DVD can only have 99 chapters maximum, but a 50GB bluray still only 99?
I cannot add them in manually either.

Hey Nic.
Thanks for that great response, and funny you should explain that, I actually have done that, I bought a Panasonic video to dvd dubbing vcr dvd combo unit. I did dub all the video to dvd, but I feel like the vob files aren't what they could be.
So I'm trying the convert.
.
You must use the master tape, i.e the Hi8 tapes directly onto a DVD.
There should be NO video tape involved.
If connected through a S-VHS lead there should be NO noticeable loss in quality.
Because my tapes are DV (digital) the quality is very good, it's far better to transfer directly to a DVD or bluray than going straight into your computer.
I have tried using Avid Composer, Sony Vegas, Adobe Encore, none give the results of a 'direct to disc' transfer.

|
What I do with my Sony DV tapes which I recommend jaymay22 doing with her Hi8 tapes is connect your camera to a DVD recorder (which cost a pittance over here in the U.K) and record the WHOLE tape UNEDITED in the highest quality possible.
In other words put your original Hi8 tape into your Hi8 camera and record in HQ mode onto a blank write once (not rewritable) so you will have a good master copy, an exact replica of your Hi8 tape with no noticeable quality loss.
Even when Hi8 tapes are stored correctly, a cool dust free environment and placed vertically (never horizontally) they are still slowly degrading so it's best to transfer as soon as possible.
A DV tape lasts an hour as does a DVD in HQ mode, assuming a Hi8 tape also lasts an hour it's best to put the whole unedited tape onto a DVD, then finalize the DVD, and then it can easy be imported (as a vob file) into Cyberlink PowerDirector for editing.
You should always keep your original master tapes even after transferring, never wipe or bin them.
In my opinion this method is much better and much easier than just importing Hi8 or DV tapes into a computer because the quality is as good as the master, and you also have your tape archived onto a DVD.
I should like to also point out that Canopus converter costs more than the Philips DVD recorder (pictured bottom link).
Which would you prefer?

I made a bluray music compilation disc today which has about 170 tracks, all PAL 720x576 broadcast quality.
After a few teething problems I left my computer burning the disc while I was at work, and put in my bluray player when I returned home.
I must say the quality of rendering was very impressive, superior to Adobe Encore and Sony Architect which surprised me and the audio was very good quality as well.
To sum up the software & disc authoring>>
*Rendering quality and audio quality very impressive
*No 'Next' or 'Previous' track option for remote control which is ludicrous (and probably the biggest failing).
*Prompt that there was a 'menu overlap' when there wasn't. I didn't alter anything & after restarting my computer the prompt had gone.
*Estimated disc usage 44.9 GB when in reality the used size was only 36.6GB
*Annoying default menu audio track had to be deleted from my computer
*Menu editing, I had to delete the 'My Videos' text from every subpage manually.
*Software is often lethargic, my computer is an i5 1TB but the software often was 'hanging'

No overlapping anywhere JL_JL

|
|
I looked at all the sub pages, there is NO overlapping whatsoever.
The nearest item which is close to the TV safe area is still well within (see screenprint).
So we have warnings when there shouldn't be, and if authoring a blu ray disc there can be no RW or FF buttons.
Hardly inspiring software is it?

Navigation buttons are overlapping?
I got this prompt before burning a 50GB bluray, I cannot see any problems with the menu though.

Thanks for that Carl312, you are quite correct.
The next or previous track option is not available when burning to bluray even if the video is native European PAL 720x576 and mpeg 2.
Looks like it's time for Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate then see if their software is any better.
|
|
Many thanks Carl312, I'll let you know the results after I've burnt the bluray, a 50GB disc which true size is 45GB which gives my project just 200MB to spare.
|
|
err Worked it out, taking forever, got to go to each subpage to delete the text.

Carl312 the problem will be that when the bluray disc is playing in the bluray player there will be no option using the remote control to FF to the next track or to RW to the previous track, on any other software this option would be open by default.
