I'm very hesitant to do a reinstall since I'm 95% finished with everything. If I lost the past 19 months of work I would lose my mind!

Anyway, I found a workaround. It's a pain, but it works.

For the sub clip, I realized it was actually speeding it up AND cutting off exactly two frames each time - only from the video, not the audio. So now I have to separate the two, adjust the speed of the video to where I want then go two more frames shorter (faster). I then lengthen the video two more frames. I then adjust the audio length normally.

It's time consuming and I have to do these adjustments at the end of the timeline then move them back, but at this point I don't care. I just want to finish with this stuff already.

Hello, all.

I've been working on several large interconnected video projects for over a year and a half now. These projects require lots of different clips at variable speeds, all precisely synced to the music. Since there is no ramped slow motion in PowerDirector, I have been using the workaround method of cutting up a single clip and making each sub clip play at a different rate. However, that no longer works properly when speeding clips up. At least not for any new clips I try this on. The clips I edited previously still work fine.

To explain in more detail, here's an example:

If there's a 5 second clip that has three parts in it that need to be synced to 3 different drum beats or whatnot, but don't happen to line up precisely, i need to cut the clip into 3 sub clips. Some of these sub clips might be slightly slowed down while some might be slightly sped up.

But here's the problem: When speeding up a sub clip that is followed by another sub clip by using the "new video length" feature, instead of it adjusting the video speed, it is just cutting those frames off the end of the clip. So, if I wanted to remove 10 frames it would just cut them instead of speed the sub clip up to shorten the whole of the sub clip. The effect that you see when it proceeds onto the next subclip is a jump in time, of sorts, since those 10 frames are no longer there.

TL;DR Clips not being sped up, instead frames are cut off.

I am using SD avi video taken from miniDV tapes shot 15 years ago on a Sony VX1000.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I have been losing my mind over this.

Thank you for reading.

Quote: Hey guys. Many apologies if this has been posted before, but I didn't find anything when I used the "search" function.

Anyway, I finally caved and submitted a YouTube account of mine to PD 11 so I could find a way around the audio syncing issue I have been having with videos uploaded to YouTube.

The good news is that the syncing issue was resolved.

The bad news is

A) WMV is not my favorite due to soft picture quality and PD doesn't offer any other options

B) I would prefer to not give permission to PD to access my YT account

C) Now that I have given PD the keys to one of my YT accounts, it seems forever linked. Is there a way to break this marriage? I have several YT channels and since I don't get an actual copy on my computer I can not go ahead and upload the video to any of the other channels that weren't linked to PD.

You can however, produce in your preferred format then go to your Youtube account and upload from there.

As to how to remove your Youtube Account information from Powerdirector, You don't. Powerdirector asks every time to sign in to your Youtube account. If you don't sign in Powerdirector does not upload.

You have to sign in to your account every time.

Hey Carl. Thanks for responding and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. So after I made the initial post and upon further inspection, I realized that the WMV upload was also off sync, even though it was very slight. Anyway, I ended up producing a video in every available format (a video which being in perfect sync was of the utmost importance) and uploaded all of them to YouTube. Each one of them ended up being out of sync (some worse than others) except for one -- MP4.

So, that's good enough for me. However, I would just like to share with everyone that the one account I previously connected is still seemingly permanently linked to PowerDirector. Each time it asks me to "authorize" access to that account, then it gives me a choice of which channel that is already connected would I like to upload the video to. But only channels connected to that account. I can not disconnect that account, nor can I connect to a different account or any of the channels connected to other accounts.

The problem hasn't been solved, but I came up with a workaround. Produce the video twice. First time omit any vid corrections such as vid enhance or white balance or color correction etc. Second time apply any of those that were omitted the first time.

Hi guys. I'm using standard definition AVI video in PowerDirector. Whenever I combine both the video enhancement function and change speeds of a video midway through a clip, (ex: normal speed of a racecar then goes to slow motion as it passes) the video enhancement seems to turn off for one frame. The end result is that whenever a clip changes speeds it also appears to flicker. I just created this video to show an example. The flicker is most noticable in the shadows (goes from black to gray for a frame then back to black): http://youtu.be/fuOjIHS8_8U

I've been stumped on this problem for a while. Is there a solution?

Version 11.0.0.3625

Rob - Yes my fan blows quite loudly when the computer gets very hot. Not in an annoying type of manner, but more like a constant confirmation that it is working diligently. So far the power management trick is working quite well. Beforehand it was quite dicey to produce anything at the lowest of HD resolutions with low double-digit mbps. However, I just produced a 4K 50 mbps video WHILE using 2 browsers with about 20 tabs open and the temps never broke 160 degrees. If things change, I will definitely send my laptop back for review. But it may just be that my cooling system just might not be advanced enough to balance out my processors at full usage.

Longedge - It seems like 90% maximum power is my sweet spot too. I really can't thank you enough. This has been my biggest obstacle since I got the computer. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me. Cheers mate!
It worked! Thanks so much. Now I can incrementally raise the power level until I find the sweet spot.

Question: What does the up arrow next to the quote button on these posts do?
Barry - That is the method I have adopted. My projects are broken down to 1-6 minutes each. I did not know about SVRT though. I am eager to give it a whirl. Thanks!

Longedge - In the advanced options is it the "maximum processor state" that you adjusted? (screenshot: http://puu.sh/54JRR.png) I lowered that to 70% and am now going to run some tests. Thanks for the tip!
Jamie - I did that about two months ago, and I just did it again for good measure. They were pretty clean. As far as video types, I have only used standard definition. Most of my projects are AVI, but I have also tested out MPG, MP4, MOV, FLV, MKV and image files. As a matter of fact, I just did a test where I used a single 1mb JPG and added a 24mb MOV file into part of it (to make it look like video playing on the TV in the picture. The total duration was 35 seconds. It brought my computer's temp to just under 200 by the end of the rendering effort. No effects were applied, and I tried producing into every available format. My target was the full HD range 1920X1080.

Barry - The MSI is a CX61. I had it custom made by XOTIC PC. I spoke with them about the heat problem and they said I would need to send my laptop back in order for them to take a look. Estimated minimum time without my computer is 1 month. I have a whole mess of projects that I need to finish up and pump out, so that isn't an option until after I finish. But this heat issue is delaying me. It's a real catch-22. That's why I was thinking about possibly slowing down the rendering/production process in hopes of reducing heat output.

When producing videos PD sometimes heats my computer in excess of 200 degrees. At around 215 my computer turns off. I was told this heat governor was a safety mechanism. I have to monitor the temperature with SpeenFan and pause the render process whenever it gets over 200 degrees. I let it cool back down then I resume the production. Depending on the project, I may have to pause every 5 seconds or so. Obviously, this is a huge pain. So I was wondering if there was a way to slow down the production process in hopes that it would create less heat.

Other things I have tried include using a cooling pad (always), resting my laptop directly on top of a powerful fan, removing the shell of the laptop to allow better airflow, and I even stuck it in the freezer. All of those methods work to a minor degree, but none are a foolproof way to produce my videos without having the computer shut itself down.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated :
Hey sorry for the delayed follow up. I ended up copying all the files from every source folder and put it all into one huge folder on my computer. The external HDD disconnection issue is still there, but I really need to start wrapping these projects up, so I guess I'm stuck with this workaround for now. Thanks to everyone for their help!
I went ahead and assigned a fixed drive letter to my external HDD. Not sure if that will prevent PD from removing files upon disconnect, but I should find out this evening when I edit next.

I also made a copy of all the relevant files from the external on my computer.

So last night I opened PD, connected the external, opened a project, then went ahead and did something else on the computer. I let it sit in the background for several hours. Not a single disconnection. Then I went into PD and after a handful of imports it disconnected. Come to think of it, since I got the computer early this year, I can't recall a single time the drive disconnected outside of using PD.
Hi Rob. Thanks for responding.

I am currently moving 175GB from my computer to an external HDD. The transfer should be finished in 90 minutes. I would really prefer to not move the files that are being used in the projects from the external drive since it would break the link to all of the projects. I am working on one massive project with many sub projects and have been doing so since January. I would really hate to have to go through everything to save the new pathways.

Anyway, as per your suggestion, I scanned the external drive and it came up error free. As for whether or not I have used a different USB port, I honestly don't know. There are two right next to each other and I don't even look when I plug something in. However, I intend to start taking notice of this. I don't use a USB hub either.

- James
It happened again to another project! But this time I made a duplicate save of the project before I did anything else. So only the duplicate was lost. BUT I was able to see what happened more closely. I DIDN'T hit save too late. I hit save THEN a split second later the disconnection happened and it got included into the save since the save hadn't yet completed.

As it stands right now, PD is totally unusable. Not even saving after literally-every-single-trivial-step works since the disconnection weasels its way into the save -- complete with an erased timeline.

Is there a way to prevent PD from removing everything from the timeline? I can live with my external HDD disconnecting and instantly reconnecting, but it erasing my timeline and library is unworkable.
*Note I haven't have any connection issues with my external HDD prior to a few days ago. These disconnections ONLY happen during import or a second afterward. This happens nearly every time I have imported anything into PD over the last two days.

For a day or so PD11 has been briefly disconnecting (then reconnecting) my external HDD almost every time I import a file (image, audio, video, etc.). When it disconnects my external HDD, it removes every file from the timeline that comes from the external drive. To counter this, I have been hitting the save button during the split second between the import and the disconnect. Then I just reopen the newly saved file. It's pain in the..... but it works.

That is, until I hit save a tad too late. It saved the version with 90% of the stuff in my timeline missing. The worst part is that it was a project that took meticulous editing, was 99% finished, and I was just adding music credits to the end. I figured shadow files would bail me out, but the most recent one I could find was from an hour prior to the calamity.

I realize that there probably isn't a way to get my edit back other than redoing it (sigh). But maybe there's a way to fix the HDD disconnection issue?

I really really don't want to lose anything else!

Thanks in advance.

No codec packs
No other video editing program

My OS is 64 bit but I didn't see the <Run 64BIT DXDIAG> button anywhere
Powerdirector is up-to-date.

After including the screen shot and the DXDIAG file, the attachment limit only allows me to include one of the three files I imported during the disaster. The other two were image files (a background and a text image overlay).
I've been editing daily for weeks now and haven't had any real issues with anything. As recently as just last night (about 12 hours ago) I imported MP3s into a project. Now, just 12 hours later, PD11 freezes when I attempt an import. I have to kill the process in task manager to get out of it.
