I doubt that you've done anything wrongly. Some LUTs will have almost no impact on particular clips, I assume partly because they may have been made for use on video shot with a particular camera on a particular setting.
How observant are you? Did you notice in the tutorial video at 2:43 that the LUT selected is not a .CUBE file, but .3dl? It's possible the tutorial maker dropped that file there to show an obvious effect.
Attached are some free LUTs I've downloaded. I'd be surprised if they don't have some impact, even if it's not the look you're after.
Let us know what happens.
Cheers - Tony

Yes it was RocketStock I downloaded from. I have tried yours and yours all work fine but I honestly cannot see any effect with Rocketstock's. I specifically tried out the examples they showed on their website e.g. Pitaya 15.cube (this should have a pretty pronounced darkening shadows effect) but nothing changes. As yours work it appears I have a problem mot with PD16 but RocketStock!
I have just upgraded from PD 14 to PD16. I was trying out the LUTs in the Fix/Enhance menu. I have downloaded the exact same free LUTs that are shown in the Cyberlink help video for using LUTs. I followed the exact same procedure as instructed but nothing happens when I select a LUT. Any idea what I have done wrong? The files are .CUBE files.
Tony although that works it is not as good as the Colour Director solution as it creates a grey graduation rather than just decreasing the exposure at the corners. So a blue sky has a grey corner rather than a deeper blue. I am being picky I know but I do thank you for the effort you put into this. I will just have to use CD on each clip individually to get the effect I want.
I think I can see why CD Presets won't work with Regional Adjustments but it would have been helpful if the Help file had explained this or the option was greyed out.
I think you're running into trouble trying to combine masking with adjustment presets in CDR, if I've understood what you and Robert have been discussing.
Have you considered using a simple overlay in a higher numbered track? I've made a few (5) attached in the ZIP file. They range in transparency.
Cheers - Tony
Hi Tony
Yes I originally tried that by making one in Photoshop but my effort was not very convincing; so I started trying with Colour Director and the result seemed much better and it was then I started trying to make a Preset for future use. I will download your zip file and play about with your solution.

Hi again. At the risk of boring folks I will update update you with what I have found.
Remember I was trying to darken skies in my clips by using Colour Director. This is possible using the Graduating tool in the Regional Adjustment pallet by selecting the area and then altering the exposure down. However to apply this effect to a number of clips I thought it made sense to create a Custom Preset. Unfortunately although you appear to save a preset it does not actually work when you try to apply it to a new clip. You appear only able to create Custom Presets using the Global Adjustment tools. I don't know if this is a bug in Colour Director or intentional. I could not find anything in the Help file that explained this.
Thanks for the suggestion. The problem is that I don't want a complete vignette I just want to shade specific parts.
It seems to me the problem lies with the use of the graduated tool. I created another preset as a test in which I reduced exposure and increased contrast over the whole frame but did not use the gradient tool. This works perfectly. However after using the test preset I tried the graduated preset (the one that did not work) and the result was it wiped out my underexposed test and my clip reverted to its pristine condition. If you have time perhaps you could do a wee experiment using the graduating tool to see if it is a bug in Colour Director. You have been very helpful so I understand if this is not a valid use of your time.
I have had another go at this and made some progress ...I think! I have done what you suggested and also found the relevant section in the Help file. My Preset is saved in the "My Custom Presets" folder but now the problem I have is trying to get it to apply to new clips. Nothing happens when I click on it. The file is a .cdadj file which I found in my AppData folder. I have tried moving it to reside alongside the customs presets supplied by Cyberlink and it still does nothing when I choose to click on it. As far as I can see I have followed the instructions to the letter; so I am a bit stuck.
I had a look at the Vignetting options on the adjustment tab but this just seems to create an oval over the whole frame. I just want to darken the sky corners.
Regards
Nigel
Hi Nigel
It seem to be working for me - here's what I do.
Using the vignetting as an example: I make the adjustments in the Manual section. Then I open Adjustments and select Presets then click on the feather+. In the window that opens I select save and give it a name. The effect is now alphabetically in My Created Presets. I highlight the clip on the CD timeline (or more than one with shift key. Finally click on the preset in My Created Presets and Bob's your uncle. You can also drag the preset to clip.
See if I've said any thing you are not doing - I think it's the Manual Section creation that you are missing

That is exactly what I thought I was doing! I have to go out for a few hours but I will try again carefully following your recipe when I get back.

Another way to do it is to keep the clip in PowerDirector, highlight it, right click and select "edit video image" "edit in ColorDirector" This should then open CD in the Manual section where you set up you vignette effect by scrolling down to the last option (your clip should already be in the CD timeline). Then just select "create" at the bottom. Save the effect as before, and then at the top of the page click on "back" Your clip should be on the PowerDirector timeline with the vignette effect. At the same time your preset should have been saved in CD
One thing to note: If cd is opened within PowerDirector, use the "back" button to get file to PD. If CD is opened individually you must use "file export to PD" to get the clip into PD

Nope! No luck trying it that way either. I attach the file I made using the instructions. Can I ask you to save it to your Custom Presets and see if it works? It should darken the left and right top corners.
For your information it does save the Gradiation back to the clip in PD but if I choose a second clip and try and alter that one by using the saved custom preset in Colour Director it has no effect. So at the moment there is no point in me saving custom presets.
Thanks
Nigel
Nigel
I downloaded it and something does happen, but it seems to be the whole image.
Try the one I have uploaded and see if that's different. See how you get on with it

Yes that one inserts a vignette on all 4 corners. My one still does nothing on my PC! Wierd that mine has some effect on your clips but not what was intended. When I made it all I did was use the gradiation tool on both top corners and then adjusted the exposure setting to darken them. When it came to creating and saving the preset I entered a name but left all the other settings as offered. It said it was using the settings at video time code 00.00.00.00. The start of the clip. I don't suppose that is relevant.

Forgive me if I am asking a question with an obvious answer.
I notice a lot of TV documentaries darken the corners and sky in their productions. I assumed that they were using a graduate filter for this. I have used filters but found it a real fiddle when you are in a hurry, your hands are cold and your nose is running! So it occurred to me that this was probably done by adding an effect while editing. I thought what I would do would be to create a .png photo in photoshop with darkened corners that I could use as an overlay where required. Frankly this looked rubbish!
I then thought I could do better using Colour Director and true enough I could get the effect I was after by using the gradient tool on the corners of the clips. What I was wondering was is there any way to save this as a custom preset? This would enable me to get a consistent effect on each clip. To be honest I have never really used Colour Director so do not know my way round it at all.

Hi Nigel
Under the ADJUSTMENTS - PRESETS Heading there is an icon that is a feather with a + sign - Try there
I hope that's what you want
Robert
Thanks Robert I will have a look at that tomorrow.

I seem to always have issues with Cyberlink Powerdirector 14. I also seem to always find solutions but I just want the software to function properly and I really don't enjoy wasting time on solving these problems.
Have you checked to see if the sound track is enabled? Sorry I couldn't see if it was in your video. I am viewing on an iPad. There is a wee box on the left of the track that enables/disables the track.
QuoteHi all. Does anyone know a way of feathering the edges of a clip? I am superimposing several clips on lower tracks over the main clip on track one. This is not a problem but the clips have hard edges that I would like to soften to make the end result feel more natural. Any ideas?
Regards
Nigel
Hi Nigel
Have you thought of highlightling the clips and using one of the feathered masks. They are customisable to suit your needs.
Just a thought
i did think of it but thought as my clips are moving and resizing across the screen it would be impossible. At least for me! It probably is not worth the hassle. I just thought that maybe I had missed a setting in the modify option.

Today for the first time I am having problems producing my current project. Up until now I have had no problems producing it to an MP4 file. I had to make minor change this morning (a spelling mistake in the title) but when I produced it large chunks of it were just flashes of broken colour. The produce settings have not been changed MPEG-4 1920 X 1080 /25 (16mbps). The section I am working on lasts about 10 minutes. I have tried cutting it up into smaller bits and some render without a problem. I clicked to view the SVRT track and it is clear that the parts that require rendering are the problem.
I have also tried rerendering projects that were already rendered successfully and they exhibit the same problems. Switching the PC off and on does not help! Has anyone any ideas?
Nigel
An update :- I changed the output render to H265 MP4 and the problem seems to have disappeared. I don't understand it as I have always used H264 MP4 before. Anyway fingers crossed. Best part of a day wasted though!

you will never beleive it! today arrived the man to fiy the PC and try to understand why low sound in output with PD14.
well we tryed, we thought, he looked at PD14 and can't really find something crashed, microphone was okay and all i had too, rivers also for microphone, jsut a lille old (2009) but this no problem in any case, all was running weel, connected...
so he thought something about levels... so look at that and on the mixer audio (the icone you can see on the left down of the screen of the PC) he increase untill the button (100) (when you clik on this icone appears a window MIXER where you can change different items, look for levels)and we tryed. now levels are around 80 and seems good!
first wasn't okay too low (but I spoke far from the microphone), so we tryrd with another editing program (Vegas Pro 14) couldn't remember I had this program and never opened. so in few minuts we understood how to register and tryed and... the volume of the my voice was okay!!
and so we tryed in PD14 immediately and... it was okay!! as when used PD12
so just try to see also you if your levels inside the computer aren't too low. surely when using old PC I without knowing and udersting it I touch thoses levels and the problem started and when he make the new one didn't look at that!
so no need pream... no need to increase... just speak!
by the fact when you open the voice over room you can make some change, by default PD give you 8000KHZ 8 bit Mono 7KB/sec
try to register with this profile: 44100KHZ 16 bit, stereo, 172KB/sec and you will heard a difference, really better.
i just hope that the nightmare is finished!!!!!
thnaks to everybody for the kindness
Thanks for your feedback. But unfortunately I have checked all input levels and they are set at 100 percent. This includes when boost is set to maximum. As I said before I am sure it is my system as input levels are too low in all applications.
Quotealos my computer has been build and powerful only for editing film.
the problem is not to find the solition by recording comment in a program ad audiacity or sound pad... this is also easy, the problem is also why we have to amplifiy the files from the pream to get the good level?
as me when i register with audiacity I ahve to amplify if not same problem on the PD14 the voice elvel is loow
and today i gt an idea as on a other lap top I have the light version PD12 i tryed to edit a small film and register direct with the voice over and... guess...my voice had the good level!! so all working perfect with the microphone of the lap top!!!
so surely we have a problem even our computer ar e new and perfect condition with software or /and the audio card?
what I wanted to do if to take /copy the capture on PD12 light version I did and copy in the new PC, but it's impossible to copy on desktop from PD program a capture with voice over!! because if was possible I could copy on the new poject in PD14 and see if the level was same or not than PD12 light version on laptop.
I am happy even i regret for you that also you have thsi problem because when you talk to people seem you are the only in the world...
what we can also do to maybe uderstand from where arrives the problem is to register with the sound register on the computer, I could do that with the old PC before to renew it and can't remember how was the result but in the new one a window appears and it's written: can't find the sound register!
because I think if the sound register on the PC is not good we can understand the problem is from the audio card (someone told me that long time ago)
but we have to think that the rpoblem can be the audio card + something else
it's a nightmare!
You are correct. I am sure it is a problem caused by our computer build. Not by the PD14 software. I spent many hours searching for a solution but gave up and settled for a work round. I could take it to a computer engineer to look at but this would cost £££ I am not prepared to spend.
