Hi there,
FINALLY going to upgrade from my PD11 to a suite.
I want and upgraded PD + PhotoDirector mostly, but Color director also really appeals to me.
There's a good Halloween deal going on at the moment, 25% off Power Director 13 Ultimate suite, with Photo Director 5 added as a bonus $149, but I can only see a download button, not an in box option.
I have a couple of questions.
1) What if my computer was to break down, and I needed to reinstall the software. If I only had the download version...how does that work? Pay extra for disks -or- pay extra for extended download service.
2) Can you download on more than one computer (ie on my work PC and my home PC?) Can only install on one computer.
3) There's some contention as to whether PD13 is worth upgrading from PD12. According to what I have gathered from comments by expert users here on this forum, PDR13 is worth it even with few kinks to iron out yet. Maybe I should just go the previous version of Director suite with PD12 in it....but I don't know what it's called. Is it Media Suite? Yes
I guess I'm looking for the best deal, with a PD upgrade, photodirector, etc. But am worried about a download.?
Can you offer any suggestions or explanations?
Thanks.

My first recommendation would be to download the User Guide http://www.cyberlink.com/support/powerdirector-ultra/userguide_en_US.html#ptag1052 and read it to familiarize yourself with basic terminology and simple editing techniques.
Please clarify what you mean by:
audio line not matching video line
Are you saying that your audio and video are not in sync at all? Or, does it start in sync then gradually lose sync?
Also, I can't seem to drag a transition down to my video line as it stops just before reaching it.
Clarification needed. When you drag a transition from the transition room and place it on the end or beginning of a video clip in the timeline and play it back, you don't see the transition? Again, the user guide discusses this basic task.

After all, surely I already have the bulk of the software with PDR10?
Totally irrelevant. :
Search for discounted copies of the boxed version of PDR12 from online resellers, e.g. Amazon. Also, local electronics stores often sell software at ridiculously low discount prices when new versions come out (at least here they do).
And then there's Ebay.

Using PDR12. Here, the Render Preview and Produce Range buttons only appear when a range is selected. When I render preview, the only way to get rid of the green bar is to delete the clip(s).
I have not found a setting to disable it.
|
|
Since the audio does play in VLC, a workaround for now would be to extract the audio using VLC and add it to the timeline in PowerDirector.
|
|
I don't know if this is of any help. I'm using PDR12. I don't have anything special in the way of audio recording hardware. I just use my Logitech Webcam mic (USB).
I just did a voiceover test of 1 minute duration and it took less than 5 seconds to appear on the timeline. I have a five minute project with video, still images and a separate audio track on the timeline.
Have you updated your audio card driver? Have you looked into possible hardware conflicts? Maybe plug your mic into a different port?
Just taking wild stabs here. There is no way a short clip should take that long to show on the timeline.

Wait a minute. I just ordered PD12, and I have yet to edit a single video. Are you saying I now have to upgrade to a newer version to get what I should have gotten to begin with?
If this is the case, then my purchase is like throwing money out the window.
PDR13 is the current version, PDR12 is the previous version. You get what you pay for.

fkaMikeB,
"File>Recent Files" was a great suggestion! I looked there, and I could see the "next to last" file I had saved. But when I went there, the file folder was gone...I don't have a clue where to go from here...it seems somehow the file folder has been deleted!!
So did you not click on the "next to last file"? Or did you click it and it didn't open or did it say "file not found"?
Quote:
I also did a search for any .pds files on the computer, and couldn't find any except the last one. It's like since I did "Produce", all the earlier "save as" files and the folder they were in has been deleted???
Following up on what tomasc was saying, did you save with a new name each time you did a "save as"? If not then, that is why you only have one .pds file. You were just overwriting the same file with the new edits. After clicking "save as" you need to rename the file each time.
When I "save as" I create a numbered series of projects such as: 2014topsecretnsafilesvideo-001.pds, 2014topsecretnsafilesvideo-002.pds, etc.
I'm not sure what to make of your save as folder being deleted. There's something I'm missing here, I think.

You can also find recent files under the File menu*:
File > Recent Files
*The number of recent files can be set in Preferences.

Oh, this is what you are asking about:
Ctrl + Drop
Overwrite content on track when a clip is dropped on another clip
Shift + Drop
Move all clips on the timeline to the right when a clip is dropped on another clip
Alt + Drop
Lay the clip over the existing clip and add a transition between the two clips when a clip is dropped on another clip
|
|
Alt + Del removes the clip and moves the entire timeline to fill the gap.
Shift + Del leaves gap
Ctrl + Del moves clips on same track
Is that what you mean?

I am thinking if my problem is that this laptop does not match to the requirements.... I am almost giving up to use PD13 on this computer....
If you look at the system requirements, your system does appear to fall short of the minimums, unfortunately.

PD 12 should be similar.
Yes. In PDR12 it works exactly as borgus1 described.

Next thing I might try is to move all the files to the SSD from the HDD. That will be a project in itself, since I'll have to go through everything file by file to associate all the files again....grrrr. Any other suggestions?
You can export a project and all the files used in the project to a folder. Select File > Pack Project Materials. It will keep what was on the timeline and remember file associations.

MP4 output is selectable in the drop down boxes underneath the formats, H.264, H.265 or XAVCS.

|
Try updating your graphics card driver.

Have you installed the patch?

On 2014-09-07 I purchased Cyberlink PowerDirector 12 Deluxe. Today was my 1st time to use it and it crashed. I went to see if others had the same problem and came upon PowerDirector 13.
On 2014-09-25 Updates PowerDirector 13 to build 2104 was released to solve the problem listed below.
"Installing this patch resolves the issue that the program randomly crashes during launch".
I inquired about a free update and was told I wasn't eligible (after only 5 days difference in purchasing) but had the option to purchase it.
I won't use or purchase anymore Cyberlink products, or products associated with them. That's my option.
Read it again and understand: The 2014-09-25 update is for PowerDirector 13! You bought PowerDirector 12.
Update to PowerDirector 13 ≠ Free Upgrade from version 12 to 13!
Looks like your 30-day refund window has also passed. Lots of folks here willing to help you...

I have just purchased powerdirector 9 but it wont allow me to activate Mpeg 2 and when it did the message just popped up again and it is saying I only have 21 days left on it. Also I can't register it, every time I try nothing happens. Any ideas?
You sure it's genuine? Could be bootleg.
Best to contact customer support.
