As far as I know, you can buy a combo with perpetual licenses for PD18 and PhD11, or if you get the subscription versions, you have to subscribe to DirectorSuite.
I don't think you can subscribe to PD and get a separate download for PhD8 Ultra, but maybe there was a special offer. You may want to contact CL customer service if you're missing the download link.
I can see the product key in my member zone as you can see in the attachment. So it looks like I should have it in my subscription, doesn't it?

Great. Thank you Jeff

Too old of GPU with current drivers for PD18 to have hardware encoding. The load is probably decoding load. Turn decoding off in pref > Hardware Acceleration and then restart PD and play a clip from the timeline and see if GPU load subsides some.
Jeff
You are right Jeff. Without decoding selected, GPU load is much lower. So what is required to utilize hardware acceleration?
|
|
It is kind of strange, that I cannot select Hardware acceleration while producing a clip. I tried different formats because I remember from previous versions, that it did work but for a particular video formats.
Now with PD 365 it is different. I cannot select hardware acceleration on the produce tab BUT when I look at GPU-Z sensors, they show a significant GPU load.
PowerDirector 365
Nvidia GeForce GTX555
Intel Xeon W3670
There is not a big deal, rendering time is good enough but I wonder if selecting hardware acceleration might shorten it?
Am I doing something wrong?

Recently I purchased PD 365 subscription and as far as I understand, PhotoDirector 8 Ultra license is included. Anyway, I have its product key in my member zone.
I still cannot find any way to download PhotoDirector 8 Ultra. Before 365, all links were included in welcome email but now I cannot see it.
How do I download it?

Oh, That's easy! Just click on My Profile above the forum text box and change the details in Signature:
I thought the same way! I'm not an idiot That's the way I created it in the first place
It looks like CL changed its policy and now you have to be Member rank to change your signature. Again, they don't care about members like me who are here for some time and set their signature in old good times.
Well... I have to boost my rank quick

Thank you for the detailed answer.
I actually use 365 subscription. I cannot find a way to change my signature it

But still, I don't get it...
The path c:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\ seams to be the Application Manager installation path. Changing it shouldn't affect the installation of other applications like Holliday Packs, Motion Graphics, etc. because they look like independent applications. They are even listed on the system's application list and can be uninstalled there. CL core has been installed in c:\Program Files\CyberLink\ directory (on my Windows 10 x64). I don't think changing the path in the AM will affect the installation path of any packs.
Anyway... I cannot find where sound clips have been downloaded?

I've used junctions for years, and they're great if you don't want to uninstall/reinstall any of the already installed packs. There's also an easy way when using the App Manager, but you would need to uninstall the existing packs first.
To do this, uninstall the packs you want to move using Windows' normal uninstaller. Then, open App Manager and click on the Settings (gear) icon, set the installation path to your desired location, and reinstall the packs.
Great idea opdata, but will it still work with a core application upgrade? or do I have to change the path each time depending on what I want to do (upgrade/pack install)?
Cyberlink developers for years, ignore user's suggestions to make optional paths for different parts of the application. Additional packs are one of them. I use SSD drive for system and I would be happy not to waste its space for things I use from time to time like sound clips, templates, etc. At the moment I cannot do it because CL does not consider it important. All that junction point talk is a patch only. I would expect more from an application like this.

If you can move all the folders to the same drive letter on your laptop, you won't need to do anything other than open the project on your laptop. For example, if your main computer has folders D:\Videos\Project clips and your laptop also has a D: drive, just copy everything.
If your laptop doesn't have that drive letter, you can create a new partition from the C: drive and assign it the same letter as your desktop.
You can also just copy all the folders to the laptop's C: drive, and when you open PD it will alert you that it can't find the clips, and all you need to do is browse to the new folder and PD will update their locations. You will need to go through those steps each time you open a project for the first time on your laptop.
Thanks optodata but I tried your solutions and they are not acceptable.
First one demands changes which are problematic because of possible data integrity loss during hard drive repartitioning.
Second one demands a lot of searching. PD gives you allerts with the file name, but you cannot see its location. Imagine having a number of files with the same name in different subfolders...? Moreover, during this initial process, you are asked at least once every subfolder you have in your structure. It is a boring and error-prone process and you have to do it every time you switch computers.
I have found a better solution and it works fine by now.
In my case, the main problem is, that on a desktop I have projects on E drive Videos folder and my laptop has C drive only.
I used system "subst" command to associate E drive letter with C:\E-DRIVE folder. Then I created Videos folder inside it and put the project there.
It works like a charm.
I hope it works for others.

Hi,
I wonder if there is any solution for this problem?
I have a nice project folder with subfolders for various media types. Now I want to edit it on my laptop while on a trip.
How do I do it? Exporting project via "Pack Project Materials" is not a good idea at all because all my nicely crafted folder structure vanishes.
Is there any other solution allowing to preserve folder structure?

Hi,
I tried to google it but to no avail.
In PD15 under Magic Motion, there is Motion Designer. I can create a motion path using keyframes but I cannot modify it as I can in PiP Designer. It would be nice to have such functionality because using keyframes produces weird curves and loops.
I'd like to drag a path to modify its roundness to reduce loops but there is no option to do it.
In PiP Designer, I can see cursor changing shape when I hover over the path. It doesn't happen in Motion Designer.
Does it mean there is no way to change paths in Motion Designer?

Hi,
I know, that above processors are not the first choice for PD 15 but I'm looking for a not too expensive laptop for traveling times.
There are pros and cons with them:
- Ryzen 5 2500U has better Vega 8 graphics unit but looses when it comes to computing power
- i5-8250U has better computing power but its UHD Graphics 620 is not the best one
Assuming similar hardware, what would you prefer to use for casual use?

I ran PassMark test on my computer and it shows CPU score 2814
So you think, the real bottleneck is CPU which is not able to produce enough tasks to feed GPU?
What score should be enough to handle it?
|
|
That's the problem for me I cannot resolve.
It doesn't matter either I produce simple movie consisting of simple chunks or complicated one with movie within movie and a lot of tree leaves waveing. GPU usage picture is roughly the same - occasional load 40% for simple movie, 99% for complicated one but average 1-3%
I thought something was wrong with GPU but I ran FurMark and it runs fairly smooth with decent temperatures and 99% constant load.
I have no idea what is causinh the problem?
|
|
There you go.
|
|
Thanks Jeff for your prompt reply (only 3 files to attach so now you have other DxDiag screens)
I am aware of drivers issue and I use 337.88 version for that reason.
I also tick "Hardware video encoder" on the Produce tab screen.
|
|
I use
- PD12
- Dell Precision 490 workstation (2 x Xeon 5130 with 8GB RAM)
for video editing.
Recently I bought Nvidia GeForce GTX555 1GB GPU hoping to speedup video encoding.... and I am surprised.....
My current measurements for 3 min long video are (without vs with acceleration) in min.sec
- MKV 3.45 vs 3.31 (6% faster)
- MP4 2.27 vs 2.18 (6% faster)
it is useless
Attached you can find DxDiag, CPU-Z and GPU-Z screenshots.
- GPU load is fractional, max 16% and average 1%.
- Processor load is nearly 100% on all CPUs,
- Memory usage no more than 20%
I hoped, that decent GPU will be utilized by PD but it doesn't look like that.
What is wrong?
PS
Sorry, wrong forum, please move to Power Director (previous versions)

Hi,
Maybe I am to optimistic but I'd love to create effects like I can see on this video clip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFsRTiBtwQs
I mean sparks following moves etc.
My base is this kind of video
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3E6FVVu8jeKOFV4cjFOdUo4V3c/edit?usp=sharing
Is it possible in PD12 and if answer is YES, how do I do it?
