I need to capture some older analog 8mm tapes. I have PD 8.0.2704. I have a Sony Digital 8 Handycam. I have a new HP desktop with Windows 7 64-bit. The camera is connected to the PC via Firewire.

I have some 8mm tapes from an older Canon 8mm camcorder. I believe they are analog, not digital. My Handycam plays them just fine, but when I try to capture them in PD, it won't work. I tried automatic batch capturing and just raw capture (i.e. the record button). It shows about 3 seconds of the video, then stops. I went to different places in the tape - same result. Same happens with just the play button.

These older tapes are the most important (kids younger years)!

How can I capture these with PD8?

Thanks.
I am having trouble with the capture portion of Automatic Batch Capture. After the quick scan and merging some clips, I start the capture. There are about 8 total clips after the merge. the quick scan worked fine. After capturing the second one, the program gets stuck going 1/2 second forward, then 1/2 second backward, then forward, then back, and on and on. I stopped the capture. The first two clips were succesfully captured. I tried it again starting a new quick scan at the third clip. Same thing after about 2-3 clips. I ended up having to quick scan and capture one merged clip at a time. I tried manual merge and auto merge, but there was no difference.

I was able to capture the whole tape, but in multiple passes which takes quite a bit more time.

This is my first use of PD or any video applciation for that matter.

I have PD 8.0.2704. I have a Sony Digital 8 Handycam. I have a brand new HP desktop (lots of power) running Windows 7 64-bit.

thanks in advance for any advice.
