It helps when you explain what it is PD does of you with PD when it freezes. What may happen when editing high quality video clips is that the PC and/or the video scard are not able to keep up because of the many bits it has to process. This will be very noticeable when e.g. you change a lot to color and other settings, add FX and transitions and many layers of clips on top of each other.

PD has some options to mitigate the frezing a bit: including

  • change the preview quality settings, set them a bit lower until PD shows a smooth picture

  • in preference general enable the shadow file creation, (and if you have that on maybe to a lower wuality still

  • Maybe it is the auto save option in projects, if you have a large project that is saved every 2 minutes then that might be a reason for PD to stall its work to get everything on disk.

Lowering the preview quality settings will also help when you have issus when doing multicam editing
In some cases it is good to reder the preview of part of the timeline, this will help you see the results of complexer editing things as mentioned above and shows waht the produced results may look like.

An as mentioned by others, it may very well be the PC that is not able to cope with what you want to do. You see that there are many options and many causes, so let us know when PD starts freezing.
